1. 23rd June: International Olympic Day
On 23rd June 1894, the International Olympic Committee was founded in Paris. The day 23rd June was chosen to be celebrated as International Olympic Day to commemorate the foundation day of the International Olympic Committee. International Olympic Day was first celebrated in the year 1948.
2. Healthcare & Hygiene EXPO 2020- India’s first-ever Largest Virtual Exhibition
Organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), the five-day Virtual Healthcare & Hygiene Expo was e-inaugurated on 22nd June 2020 by Mansukh Mandaviya (Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers). As Digital India is making a way forward, the exhibition is the first-ever virtual exhibition in India. The virtual event will be live daily from 22nd to 26th June.
3. 23rd June: United Nations Public Service Day
The United Nations General Assembly designated 23rd June to be observed as ‘United Nations Public Service Day’ in order to highlight the value and virtue of public service to the community. The day is also observed so that the value of public service for the development of the society can be understood by the younger generation, further they can be encouraged to pursue careers in the public sector.
4. International Widows Day is observed on 23 June
International Widows’ Day is observed on 23 June. A million of widows across the globe live in poverty, and without any substantial support. Widows, and people dependent on them, face extreme poverty, a lot of injustice, among other societal. The day aims to address the issue that widows and their children face in several countries.
5. NITI Aayog to launch ‘Decarbonising Transport in India’ project on June 24
NITI Aayog will be launching ‘Decarbonising Transport in India’ project on June 24, 2020 in collaboration with the International Transport Forum. The main aim of the project will be to develop a pathway towards a low-carbon transport system for India.
The Decarbonising Transport in India project will be launched by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant and ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim during an online public launch event. The event will see participation from several senior officials of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways and ITF.
6. World Athletics appoints Laurent Boquillet as new Head of Global Development
World Athletics on June 22 announced that Laurent Boquillet has been appointed as the Head of Global Development. World Athletics mentioned that the global search to fill out the new position was conducted in January 2020.
The new position of Head of Global Development supports the body’s vision which is ‘to use the power and accessibility of athletics and our athletes to create a healthier and fitter world.
7. Prakash Javadekar inaugurates virtual India Pavilion at Cannes Films Market
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar virtually inaugurated the India Pavilion at the Cannes Film Market.
The film market includes virtual pavilions for institutions such as film funds and filming boards from across the globe as well as virtual booths for sales companies to screen their projects-in-work and connect with buyers.
8. Biocon ties up with DKSH to distribute 7 products in Singapore, Thailand
Bio-technology major Biocon said it has signed an agreement with market expansion services provider DKSH for distribution of seven generic products in Singapore and Thailand. Biocon Pharma Ltd, a subsidiary of the bio-tech firm, and DKSH Business Unit Healthcare, have inked an agreement in this regard, Biocon Ltd said in a statement.
9. Colin Shah appointed new chairman of GJEPC
Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), under the aegis of the Commerce Ministry, on Monday announced the appointment of Colin Shah as Chairman of the apex trade body for the sector.
Further, Vipul Shah has been named Vice Chairman of GJEPC, according to the trade body statement.
10. FCA appoints London Stock Exchange executive Nikhil Rathi as CEO
The UK head of the London Stock Exchange, Nikhil Rathi, has been appointed chief executive of the Financial Conduct Authority, making him the first BAME leader of the UK’s City regulator.
The Treasury announced Rathi’s appointment on Monday, formally replacing Andrew Bailey, who led the watchdog for almost four years years before becoming the governor of the Bank of England in March.
11. IFTAS Announces the Appointment of Shri. T. Rabi Sankar as Chairman and Dr. N Rajendran as Chief Executive Officer
IFTAS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reserve Bank of India announces the appointments of Shri. T Rabi Sankar as the Chairman and Dr. N Rajendran as the CEO of the organization effective May 15, 2020 and May 27, 2020 respectively.
Shri. T Rabi Sankar, currently serving as Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India for Payment systems, Information Technology, Risk Management and Fintech has taken over concurrent charge, ex officio, as the Chairman of IFTAS.
12. Standard Chartered appoints Gaurav Maheshwari as CFO – India
Standard Chartered Bank, India, has appointed Gaurav Maheshwari as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective June 22, 2020. Maheshwari has taken over from Subhradeep Mohanty, who was promoted as the CFO for the Africa & Middle East (AME) region. Maheshwari brings with him over 23 years of experience gained predominantly across the financial and corporate sector.
13. Yes Bank launches co-branded cashless card with Affordplan for heathcare needs
Yes Babin partnership with Affordplan, a Delhi-based fintech company specializing in healthcare, announced the launch of ‘Swasth Card’, a co-branded healthcare card, under Swasth program in its endeavour to enable families plan and manage their finances for their healthcare needs.
In addition, YES BANK’s wallet has also been integrated on Affordplan Swasth to enable wallet QR scan for making payments to merchant partners empanelled on the Affordplan Swasth app.
