  1. India’s first underwater metro tunnel completed for Rs 9,000 cr in Bengal

The tunnelling work under the Hooghly river, the first such underwater project in the country, to provide metro connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata has been completed. The tunnel is a crucial link for the 16.4 km-long mass rapid transport (MRT) project being constructed by the Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation (KMRC) at an estimated cost of around Rs 9,000 crore. India has joined a select band of nations. Another rare feat achieved by Kolkata after getting the first metro railway in the country in 1984.

  1. Union Government launches VAJRA scheme to attract Indian scientists abroad

In a bid to bring together the Indian scientists abroad and India-based researchers for conducting joint researches in India, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) launched a scheme named ‘Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty’ (VAJRA).

Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan launched the Web portal of VAJRA in New Delhi and said that the initiative would boost research work and lead to newer, cutting edge technologies, which was needed in India.

  1. Free electricity connection for BPL families announced in UP

UP Cabinet Minister Shrikant Sharma in a press conference in Lucknow announced that under the Power For All scheme all the urban BPL families will get free electricity connection. The ‘Power for All’ pact was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power Piyush Goyal.

  1. Maharashtra to launch app on tree plantation

Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has announced that a mobile app named ‘My Plant’, which would help in recording data on tree plantations in the state, would be launched on July 1. Using this app, people and organisations can feed the data about the saplings they have planted with the Forest Department, which would help create a database of trees.

  1. Reliance opens research centre for polymer applications at Vadodara

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has opened a technologically advanced product application & research centre (PARC) for polymers at Vadodara, Gujarat. The PARC will focus on creating value addition opportunities, not only for RIL’s polymer business, but also for its customers by offering technical, product upgradations and application development services.

The PARC, initially set up in Mumbai in 1990 with the sole objective of providing product support solutions to customers, has now been transformed into a crucial R&D facility for polymers, such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

  1. World Bank sanctions 44 million dollars for ASPIRe

World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a loan assistance of 44 million dollars for the Assam State Public Finance Institutional Reforms (ASPIRe) Project. The loan was sanction by World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) in its meeting held on June 15 at Washington DC, USA.  The project aims at improving predictability and transparency in budget execution and efficiency in tax administration in Assam.

  1. PSLV-C38 Successfully Launches 31 Satellites in a Single Flight

ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C38 successfully launched the 712 kg Cartosat-2 Series Satellite along with 30 co-passenger satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. This is the thirty ninth consecutively successful mission of PSLV. All the 31 satellites successfully separated from the PSLV in a predetermined sequence beginning with Cartosat-2 series satellite, followed by NIUSAT and 29 customer satellites. The total number of Indian satellites launched by PSLV now stands at 48.

  1. Kavita Devi first Indian woman wrestler to compete in WWE

Former competitive powerlifter Kavita Devi will become the first Indian woman to compete in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) when she takes part in the company’s first ever tournament for women next month.

Hailing from Haryana, Kavita has undergone training to be a professional wrestler under the guidance of The Great Khali (Dalip Singh Rana) at his Punjab based wrestling promotion and training academy.
