India is ranked 176th out of 180 countries in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) for 2024.

This is a little better than the previous year’s ranking, but it still puts it among the world’s worst offenders.

The measure, which was made by Yale and Columbia universities, shows how badly India is doing in important areas like biodiversity, air quality, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Placed 10th on the Environmental Performance Index 2024 list,

  • Estonia got a score of 75.3.
  • Score for Luxembourg: 75.0
  • Score for Germany: 74.6
  • Score for Finland: 73.7
  • Score: 72.7 for the UK
  • Sweden got 70.5 points,
  • Norway got 70.0 points,
  • Austria got 69.0 points.
  • Score for Switzerland: 68.0

2. Mumbai Retains Top Spot as India’s Most Expensive City for Expats: Mercer Report

Mumbai is still India’s most expensive city for expats, according to Mercer’s 2024 Cost of Living Survey, which came out on June 17.

It jumped to 136th in the world and 21st in Asia. New Delhi comes in at number 30 in Asia, showing a big change in how prices work in different Indian towns.

Even though India is having problems with its economy, it is still strong and offers affordable benefits for hiring talent from around the world.

The study shows that prices of housing and consumer goods have gone up in different ways in different major Indian cities.

Delhi has seen the biggest increase. Mumbai is the most expensive place to get around and take care of yourself, but Kolkata is the cheapest place to get basic things.

Hong Kong is still the most expensive place for expats in the world, showing how different cost-of-living trends are happening around the world.

3. India Participates in the Summit on Peace in Ukraine

India was represented at the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on June 15 and 16, 2024, by Shri Pavan Kapoor, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

India went to both the opening and closing plenary sessions of the Summit, but it did not agree with any documents or communiques that came out of them.

This shows that India has always taken a strong, independent stance in favor of using dialogue and diplomacy to end the war peacefully.

India’s Promise to Find a Peaceful Solution

India’s presence at the Summit and in earlier meetings between the NSA and Political Directors based on Ukraine’s Peace Formula shows its dedication to a long-lasting and peaceful solution.

India wants the sides to the conflict to engage in honest and useful talks. They stress that dialogue and diplomacy are very important for making peace last.

4. International Day for Countering Hate Speech 2024 – June 18

Every country in the world celebrates the International Day for Countering Hate Speech on June 18.

The goal of this important day is to bring attention to the harmful effects of hate speech and encourage people to find, talk about, and fight it.

How young people can help stop hate speech

The theme for this year, “The Power of Youth for Countering and Addressing Hate Speech,” shows how important young people are to making society more accepting and peaceful.

The UN knows that hate speech, which attacks and dehumanizes people because of who they are, is becoming more common around the world and spreading quickly through social media.

It is said by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that hate speech like “xenophobia, racism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred, anti-LGBTQI+ hatred, misogyny, and other types of intolerance” is spreading both online and off.

5. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Gets Rs 50,000 Crore Tender for Combat Helicopters

The Indian government recently gave Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a well-known aircraft and defense company, a one-of-a-kind deal worth about Rs 50,000 crore.

An Indian company has never been given such a large order for helicopters all at once. Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), also called “Prachand,” will be bought with the money.

Buying things and contract details

  • The Single Vendor Contract (SVC) method was used to handle this tender, and it will only go to HAL.
  • The company will now make a technical and business offer, which will be thought over with the defense minister until everyone agrees on it.
