1. India will overtake China as most populated nation in 8 yrs: UN
India will overtake China to become the world’s most populated country in eight years and will remain so through the end of the current century, a United Nations report stated. India is expected to add nearly 27.3 crore people between now and 2050, it added. In China, the population is projected to decrease by 3.14 crore between 2019 and 2050.
2. ISRO opens its laboratories for Indian school students
ISRO opens its laboratories for Indian school students. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is an agency which has the legacy of India’s ancient knowledge and modern technology. She opened its laboratories for Indian school students to undergo two-week training from this year.

For the first time ever India will be hosting the 14th session of Conference of Parties (COP-14) of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in September 2019, to address the issue of land degradation and desertification.
9. Denmark’s Inger Andersen takes over as UNEP’s Executive Director
Denmark’s Inger Andersen recently took charge as the new Executive Director (ED) of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She will hold the designation for period of 4-years.
Inger is a Danish economist and environmentalist with over 30 years of experience in international development economics, environmental sustainability and policy-making.
10. Operation Sunrise 2: Armies of India, Myanmar target NE Militants
Starting from 16 May 2019, the armies of India and Myanmar carried out a 3-week-long coordinated operation in their respective border areas called ‘Operation Sunrise 2’ to bust terror camps. The operation was targeted at militant groups operating in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. This was the 2nd edition of Operation Sunrise.
