1. Veteran playwright, actor and director Girish Karnad passed away
Veteran playwright, actor and director Girish Karnad passed away. Veteran director, playwright and actor Girish Karnad passed away at the age of 81 on 10th June 2019. Karnad died due to a prolonged illness.
Awards:
Girish Karnad was conferred with Padma Shri award in 1974 for contributions to theatre. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan for literature.
2. Haryana, Maharashtra dominate third day of Youth men’s & women’s national boxing championship
Haryana, Maharashtra dominate third day of Youth men’s & women’s national boxing championship. Haryana and Maharashtra participated in the third day of the 3rd Youth men’s and women’s national boxing championship in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand.
Four boxers from Maharashtra entered the quarterfinals. Ankit Narwal-led Haryana boxers reached the last-eight stage. Narwal, the 2018 Youth Asian Championship bronze winner in men’s 60kg category. Haryana’s Akshay Kumar won the game in the same way.

State Bank of India introduces Repo Rate-Linked Home Loan. State Bank of India introduced repo rate-linked home loans. SBI, the country’s largest bank by assets home loans linked to the repo rate from July 1, 2019. Key interest rate reduced to 5.75
4. ASI declares Chaukhandi Stupa as of national important monument
ASI declares Chaukhandi Stupa as of national important monument. Chaukhandi Stupa, an ancient Buddhist site located in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, has been declared as a Monument and protected area of national importance by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Chaukhandi Stupa:
Chaukhandi Stupa is a lofty mound of brick whose square edifice is surrounded by an octagonal tower. It was built to mark the place where Lord Buddha met his first disciples as he traveled from Bodhgaya to Sarnath.

6. Mount Sinabung volcano erupted in Sumatra Island
Mount Sinabung volcano erupted in Sumatra Island of western Indonesia. A huge column of ash was blasted and spread 7 km high to southeast and south of crater. Mount Sinabung blew for nine minutes. It caused panic among the island’s residents. The volcanic activity was accompanied by multiple earthquakes felt in nearby villages. No casualties have been reported due to the eruption. Indonesia has nearly 130 active volcanoes, more than any other country.
7. Singapore topped the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2019
Singapore topped the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2019. Swiss-based International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking 2019 said Singapore has dethroned the US to become the most competitive economy in the world. Hong Kong stands second spot in the list. USA stands third followed by Switzerland and UAE and fourth and fifth respectively. Qatar entered the top 10. India ranked 43, one position higher compared to 2018.
8. India’s First Dinosaur Museum Park inaugurated in Gujarat
India’s First Dinosaur Museum Park inaugurated in Gujarat . Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated India’s first Dinosaur-Museum-cum-Park in the Mahisagar district. It is set to give visitors a Jurassic Park kind of feel. The museum is located in Raiyoli area in Balasinor exhibit remains of various dinosaurs and fossil records. Dinosaur Museum cum Park is the first park in the country and the world’s third park.
9. Mahindra Group Won Gold Award In South Africa
Mahindra Group Won Gold Award In South Africa. Mahindra Company has 60 dealers in South Africa secured top position out of which 29 vehicle brands surveyed for the awards. They received the award from the country’s National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and resided at Africa for 16 years and they tested dealers satisfaction with the way a brand supports and communicated with them.
10. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev elected Kazakhstan president
Interim President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, won the country’s snap Presidential elections with nearly 71%. He was also the chosen successor of veteran ruler and former leader Nursultan Nazarbayev. After Nursultan Nazarbayev resigned from as Presidential post of Kazakhstan in March 2019, the Presidentship was transferred to the then Speaker of the Senate (Upper House), Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
11. IPS V.S. Kaumudi appointed as Director General of BPR&D
The Centre government has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer V.S. Kaumudi as Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) by lowering the post to the rank of Additional Director General.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet comprising of Prime Minister of India (who is the Chairman) and Minister of Home Affairs, approved the proposal made by Union Ministry of Home Affairs for appointing V.S. Kaumudi as Director General (ADG level) BPR&D.
12. Mela Kheer Bhawani celebrated in J&K
With commencement of annual festival of Kheer Bhawani Mela on Zeasht Ashtami, hundreds of Kashmiri Pandit devotees prayed at famous Ragnya Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Ganderbal district. An elaborate security arrangement was made by J&K administration so that mela passed off peacefully for devotees who thronged temple from across the country…
