1. 3 Indian-origin techies among richest self-made women in US: Forbes

Three Indian-origin techies have featured in Forbes list of America’s 80 richest self-made women. Ranked 18th with $1.4 billion net worth, Jayshree Ullal is CEO of computer networking firm Arista Networks, and Neerja Sethi, ranked 23rd with $1 billion net worth, cofounded IT consulting firm Syntel. Neha Narkhede has been ranked 60th with a net worth of $360 million.

2. World’s first infinity pool with 360-degree view to open in London

London is set to get the world’s first infinity pool with a 360-degree view atop a 55-storey building and its construction may begin as early as 2020. Compass Pools, a UK-based pool manufacturer, has unveiled its design for a 6,00,000-litre pool ‘Infinity London’. Swimmers will enter or exit through a rotating spiral staircase that rises from the pool floor.

3.PM Modi awarded Maldives’ highest honour for foreign dignitaries

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Saturday conferred the Maldives’ highest honour accorded to foreign dignitaries, ‘The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen’, during his visit to the island nation. PM Modi is visiting the Maldives as part of his first diplomatic foreign visit after he assumed office for a second term.

4. World Oceans Dayis celebrated on 8th June

World Oceans Day is celebrated on 8th June every year. The day was declared in 2008. June 8 was marked as it marks the day when it was first proposed in 1992 by Canada’s International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) at the Earth Summit, UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel Takes Oath As New CJI Of Delhi High Court. Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel sworn in as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Lt Governor Anil Baijal administered the oath of office to Justice Patel at a function held at Raj Niwas. Earlier, Justice Patel was posted at the Jharkhand High Court. Supreme Court Collegium recommended his name for the appointment as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court

Justice Prashant Kumar Appointed As Acting CJ Of Jharkhand HC. Centre notified the appointment of Justice Prashant Kumar as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court with effect from the date present Acting Chief Justice D N Patel relinquishes charge following his appointment as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. Former Chief Justice Aniruddha Bose was appointed as Supreme Court judge on May 22.

7. India Foreign Minister Jaishankar in Bhutan on his 1st bilateral visit

India Foreign Minister Jaishankar in Bhutan on his 1st bilateral visit. External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar reached Bhutan on June 7 on a two-day visit.

This is his first overseas trip after assuming charge of the Foreign ministry. During his visit, the two countries discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including the upcoming high-level exchanges, economic development and hydro-power cooperation.

8. Romila Thapar elected as member of American Philosophical Society

Eminent historian and writer Romila Thapar has been elected as international member of American Philosophical Society (APS) at its Annual Spring Meeting. She is Professor Emerita of history at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. She is renowned for her careful scholarship on emperor Aśoka, epigraphy of Mauryan period, and ground-breaking studies and multiple historiographies surrounding contested Hindu and Muslim history of Somnath.

9. SriLankan Airlines: World’s Most Punctual Airline

SriLankan Airlines, the National Carrier of island nation has been named the ‘World’s Most Punctual Airline’ for second consecutive time. SriLankan Airlines, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka, has been named ‘World’s Most Punctual Airline’ for second consecutive time in less than 12 months with over 90% of its flights in May being “on time”. In September 2018 it achieved a punctuality rating of 91.37%.

It was named so by global flight tracker, ‘Flightstats’ which analysed data of over 41 carriers from all over the world.

10. Former US President Jimmy Carter receives Statesmanship Award

Jimmy Carter, Ex-President of United States of America (USA) won the inaugural George H. W. Bush Award for Statesmanship in recognition of his contributions to relations between U.S. and China.

It is conferred by George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S. China Relations. Jimmy Carter will receive inaugural George H. W. Bush Award for Statesmanship in U.S.-China Relations at a private award ceremony scheduled for 12 June 2019 at Carter Center in Atlanta, US.

11. Teen Climate activist Greta Thunberg wins Amnesty prize

The 16-year old climate activist, Greta Thunberg of Sweden won Amnesty International’s ‘Ambassador of Conscience’ Award 2019 for mobilising world public opinion global warming.

She is a Swedish teenage climate activist and a fierce campaigner who began protesting outside Swedish parliament in August 2018.

12. World Brain Tumor Day observed on June 08

World Brain Tumor Day is observed on 8th June, every year. German Brain Tumour Association (Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe e.V.), a nonprofit organisation, first marked this day in the year 2000 to spread the awareness about the brain tumour among the general public. Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe was founded in 1998 and have more than 500 registered members from fourteen nations.
