1. P Jayadevan appointed as IOCL executive director for TN, Pondy

P Jayadevan appointed IOCL executive director for TN, Pondy. P Jayadevan appointed as executive director of IndianOil Corporation Ltd for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with immediate effect. He succeeds R Sitharthan. He will function as the coordinator for the oil industry in the state and also in the union territory. He will head as the chairman’s secretariat at the corporate office, New Delhi.

2. Delhi Metro Station becomes India’s first project to receive power from waste-to-energy

Delhi Metro became the first ever project in the country to receive power generated from a waste-to-energy plant. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) receiving 2 MW power from a 12 MW capacity waste-to-energy plant set up in Ghazipur. It is being utilized at the Vinod Nagar Receiving Substation (RSS) for meeting the operational requirements of Pink Line of Delhi Metro.

Gujarat topped the country with annual fish production of 7.8 lakh tonnes, followed by Tamil Nadu (7.02 lakh tonnes) and Kerala (6.43 lakh tonnes) according to the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).

India ranks 95 in the Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index. India ranked 95th out of 129 countries in the Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index. India’s score of 56.2 on a scale of 0–100. The index found that no country has fully achieved te gender equality and that the global average score of 65.7 out of 100 which falls in the poor category.

5. Women’s Prize for Fiction: American author Tayari Jones wins

American novelist Tayari Jones won this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction for her fourth novel “An American Marriage“. It is one of the biggest international celebrations of women’s creativity.

Her book competed against five other shortlisted authors, including two former Booker prize winners namely Anna Burns (novel “Milkman” won booker prize winners namely Anna Burns (novel “Milkman” won booker prize for 2018) and Pat Barker’s new novel “The Silence of the Girls“.

6. Six-time Grammy-winning musician Dr John passes away at 77

Six-time Grammy-winning musician Malcolm John Rebennack, better known as Dr John, passed away on Thursday aged 77. According to a statement released on behalf of his family, the singer-songwriter suffered from a heart attack early in the morning. He started his career as a pianist in the 1950s and gained popularity following the release of his first album in 1968.

7. Mitchell Starc fastest bowler to reach 150 wickets in ODI cricket

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has become the fastest bowler to reach 150 wickets in ODI cricket, achieving the feat against West Indies in 2019 World Cup on Thursday. The 29-year-old reached the landmark in his 77th ODI, breaking former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq’s record (78 matches). Starc registered figures of 10-1-46-5 against West Indies.

8. World Food Safety Day is observed on June 7

The first-ever World Food Safety Day is observed on 7 June 2019 under the theme “Food Safety, everyone’s business”. World Food Safety Day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018. WHO, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to facilitate Member States effort to celebrate the World Food Safety Day this year and in coming years.

9. Mithali 1st Indian lady to hit 2000 T20I runs

She took only 74 innings to achieve this feet. India are currently on top of the points table with six points from four matches. India will next face Pakistan on June 9.  Mithali has now scored 2015 runs in 74 T20’s with the help op of 14 half-centuries. She has a decent average of 38.01 with a highest score of 76 not out.

10. India ranks 137th on Global Peace Index 2018

India has moved up four places to the 137th rank among 163 countries on the 2018 Global Peace Index according to a report by an Australian think tank. India has improved by four positions in the overall ranking from 141st to 137th.
