- Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar to receive Bharat Gaurav Award by NRI community of US
Madhur Bhandarkar has conferred with Bharat Gaurav Award along with spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Late Kalpana Chawla and few others prominent personalities.
Madhur Bhandarkar, known for his path-breaking films was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India last year. The filmmaker already has the National Awards for Best Feature Film and Best Director for Page 3 and Traffic Signal respectively.
The ace director is being conferred with the Bharat Gaurav Award on June 9 at the United Nations Hall, New York.
- AP’s Vizianagaram bags MGNREGA national award
The Ministry of Rural Development has selected Vizianagaram as one among the 17 districts across the nation for the MGNREGA annual award for effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act during 2015-16.
The award would be presented at the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Sammelan to the district programme coordinator and District Collector on June 19 in New Delhi.
- India Signs Loan Agreement with the WB for USD 39.2 Mn for the project “Assam Citizen Centric Service Delivery”
An agreement for IBRD Credit of USD 39.2 Million from World Bank for the project “Assam Citizen Centric Service Delivery” was signed. The objective of the project is to improve access in the delivery of selected public services in Assam. The Project seeks to enable citizens to access services under the RTPS Act in a timely, efficient, and accountable manner. The Project adopts an integrated approach to improve access and accountability.
- MoU signed between Central Industrial Security Force & National Skill Development Corporation
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) & National Skill Development Fund (NSDF), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU provides that CISF, NSDC and NSDF shall work together at CISF units all across the country where Family Welfare Centres are functional and other CISF locations with an objective to impart skill development programs under the Skill India Mission for the purpose of implementation of CISF Multi Skill Development Institute Projects.
The MoU aims at assisting retiring/retired, serving low medical category (LMC) CISF personnel to acquire additional skills and facilitate their resettlement through a second career.
- Shri Rajnath Singh to inaugurate 2-day national level conference on “Capacity Building of SDRF-2017”
The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate a two-day national level conference on “Capacity Building of SDRF-2017”. The conference is being organised by the National Disaster Response Force to develop a synergy and to highlight way ahead to strengthen the response capabilities of SDRF. Dr P. K Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog will also participate in the conference.
- Pension for single-women launched in Telangana
The Telangana government was the only government in the country to launch welfare schemes such as pension for single women for the betterment of society, said Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Eatala Rajender. The government was proving pension to the plight of single women deserted by their husbands and relatives, the government decided to distribute pension of ₹1,000 per month to such women on humanitarian grounds.
- NSDC signs MoU with Bird Academy for skilling of unemployed youth
An MoU was signed between National Skill Development Corporation and Bird Academy on the 1st of June 2017 in New Delhi, with regards to skilling of unemployed youth in the aviation and aerospace Sector. With the signing of the MoU NSDC has agreed to enter into an arrangement with BIRD ACADEMY to train, skill & empower more than 30,000 unemployed youth across various states including North Eastern states with special focus to train and empower minimum 5,000 women & tribal youths from the underprivileged sections of the society and assist states in capacity building over the next six years.
- TRAI launches three new apps
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday has launched three new apps to help customer’s rate quality of services, speed and performance.
The three new apps — Mycall app, MySpeed app and ‘Do not disturb (DND 2.0)’ app are being launched so that there is more transparency between the consumers and the service providers.
For instance, the MyCall app, is an Android application for crowd sourced voice call quality monitoring. The application will help mobile phone users rate their experience about voice call quality in real time and help TRAI gather customer experience data along with Network data.
- TATA Projects launches initiative to promote green cover
TATA Projects has announced the launch of Green Thumb, an initiative to enhance the green cover. This new initiative of the infrastructure company coincides with World Environment Day and is in continuation of TATA Projects’ programme last year aimed at getting 10,000 people to click (pledge) to plant a sapling on their behalf. It received responses from 23,000 people. TATA Projects planted over 42,000 saplings across over 100 locations during 2016-17.
- Airtel-Telenor merger receives CCI approval
Bharti Airtel has said the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the proposed merger of elenor India with the company. Earlier, Bharti Airtel and Telenor India also filed a joint application before National Company Law Tribunal for approval of their merger following nod from the market regulator Sebi and stock exchanges — BSE and NSE.
Airtel and Telenor signed the agreement for the merger in February 2017 under which Airtel will acquire Telenor India’s running operations in seven circles — Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP (East), UP (West) and Assam.
- ICICI Bank commissions 200 solar powered ATMs
ICICI Bank commissioned over 200 solar powered ATM sites in the last one year as part of its efforts to reduce carbon footprint and use more clean energy.
ICICI Bank has reduced its overall energy consumption in large offices and branches from 198 million units in 2013-14 to 164 million units in 2016-17, saving 34.2 million units in last three years.
This is equivalent to the amount of energy that can power 42,000 rural households for an entire year. Additionally, the bank has commissioned over 200 solar powered ATM sites,” ICICI Bank said in a statement on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

- ISRO successfully launches India’s heaviest rocket GSLV MK3
The GSLV MKIII-D1 rocket will carry the GSAT-19 communication satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. It is capable of lifting payloads of up to 4,000 kg into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and 10,000 kg into the Low Earth Orbit, enough to carry a manned module.
Termed as a monster rocket, it weighs 640 tonnes, equal to the weight of 200 Asian elephants.
It is also the country’s shortest rocket with a height of 43 metre, roughly as high as a 13-storey building.

- China successfully tests solid-fuel variable ramjet engine
China has successfully tested a solid-fuel variable flow ramjet engine which could enhance the real combat ability of the country’s stealth aircraft and boost firing range of missiles. A team from No. 4 research institute affiliated with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) disclosed on May 31 that it has successfully conducted two flight tests with the ramjet engine.
