1. PV Sindhu Appointed Brand Ambassador For Tobacco Control

An event was held by the Indian Government’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to honour World No Tobacco Day 2024.

“Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference” is the theme for this year.

An Indian badminton legend named Ms. PV Sindhu was chosen to be the brand spokeswoman for Tobacco Control.

2. School Education Department Signs MoU with National Book Trust to Create Institutional Framework for Rashtriya E-Pustakalaya

The Department of School Education and the National Book Trust signed an MoU to set up the institutions that will support the Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya Digital Library Platform.

K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, said that the Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so fans can get their books whenever they want.

He also said that Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya would solve the problem of many states not having a library in the last mile.

An online library platform

In the next two to three years, the digital library plans to give over 10,000 books in more than 100 languages, which will solve the “last mile” problem for many states.

There are now more than 1,000 books offered in 23 languages.

What Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya wants to do

The Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya will have more than 1,000 non-academic books from more than 40 companies, written in 22 languages besides English.

The platform will be available on Android and iOS devices and will be geared toward four age groups: 3 to 8, 8 to 11, 11 to 14, and 14 to 18.

This is in line with NEP 2020 standards. The library will have books from a variety of genres, which will help people understand and respect other cultures.

The project, which aims to close the digital gap, will make sure that books can be accessed at any time and from anywhere, encouraging young people to develop good reading habits.

The MoU means that both countries will work together to make India a better place to learn.

3. Nokia and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Collaborate on 5G/6G Research

Nokia and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), a Finnish telecom giant, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together to look into improvements in 5G and 6G communications, focusing on the logistics and transportation sectors.

The agreement, which was signed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chancellor of GSV, will use Nokia’s experience in telecommunications to improve different parts of logistics and transportation.

Focus Areas for Research

Nokia and GSV will work together on a number of important issues, including:

Transportation Use Cases: Looking into how 5G and 6G can be used in land, air, and sea travel.

Standards Development: Helping to make telecommunications business standards for the transportation field.

Smart Factory and Automation: Looking into how modern communication technologies can be used to make automation and smart factory solutions possible.

AI and GenAI Labs are looking into how to use artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) together in shipping and transportation.

Industry-Driven Working Together

The partnership shows that GSV is committed to education and study that are driven by business needs. GSV wants to encourage creativity and help build a technologically advanced transportation and logistics ecosystem in India by working closely with Nokia and other important players in the industry.

The Network as Code Platform from Nokia

Nokia’s network as code platform, developer portals, and digital twins will also be used as part of the collaboration to improve processes in the transportation and logistics sectors.

As part of this project, fibre detection, AI, and planning for optical networks will also be looked into.

4. State Bank of India Market Cap Crosses ₹8 Lakh Crore Milestone

State Bank of India (SBI) reached a big milestone when its market capitalization went over ₹8 lakh crore.

This was made possible by a huge rise in the price of its shares. This accomplishment shows how well the bank has been doing and shows that investors are confident in the banking industry as the market is doing well.

5. International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression 2024

Each year on June 4, people around the world remember “International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.” It’s on a Tuesday this year.

History

An extra sitting of the UN General Assembly was held on August 19, 1982, to talk about the terrible conditions Palestinian and Lebanese children were living in because of Israeli attacks during the Lebanon War.

The group also promised to protect the rights of Lebanon’s children. The UN General Assembly said that June 4 will be International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression every year.

Soon after, the UN grew to include protecting the rights of children all over the world.

What it means

“Every day, children living in war zones around the world have to deal with unspeakable awful things.”

They are not safe at home, when they play outside, when they go to school, or when they go to hospitals for medical care.

A huge number of children are being hurt or killed by warring parties, and they are also being kidnapped and sexually abused. Schools and hospitals are also being attacked, and children are not getting the humanitarian aid they need. The United Nations wrote this on their website.

6. India Created World Record with 64.2 crore People Voting in Lok Sabha Poll

India set a new world record by having 64.2 crore votes, including 31.2 crore women, take part in the Lok Sabha Election 2024.

CEO Rajiv Kumar said that the number of voters is 1.5 times the total number of votes in the G7 countries, which are the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada.

It is also the world record for the most women voters (31.2 crore), who went to the polls for the Lok Sabha.

He also said that there were only 39 recounts in this race, compared to 540 recounts in the 2019 General race.

Mr. Kumar said that more than 68 thousand monitoring teams and 1.5 crore poll workers and security guards were part in the election. He also said that, with a turnout of 58.58 percent generally and 51.05 percent in the Valley, Jammu and Kashmir had its best turnout in forty years.
