1. Infosys launches Cyber Defence Center in Romania

Infosys announced the launch of its state-of-the-art Cyber Defence Center in Bucharest, Romania.The Defence Center is an expansion of services delivered through Infosys Digital Innovation Center which opened in Bucharest.

They will provide end-to-end, real-time, 24/7 cyber security monitoring and protection services to support European and global businesses on their digital transformation journey.

2. Centre to conduct the 22nd National Conference on e Governance

The Centre is to organize the 22nd National Conference on e-Governance 2019 on 8-9th August, 2019 at Shillong, Meghalaya. For the first time ever, the event is being organized in North-Eastern region of the country.

The Conference will be co-ordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) with Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India and the State Government of Meghalaya.

3. Rajya Sabha passed the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill

The Rajya Sabha has passed the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill, 2019. The Bill aims to introduce a mechanism that will curb the ponzi schemes. It will protect the interest of depositors. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on July 24, 2019. The Bill will now replaced the Ordinance promulgated on February 21, 2019.

4. Rajya Sabha passed the IBC amendment Bill

The Rajya Sabha approved the amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2019 provides clarity about preference to secured lenders over operational creditors.

5.BJP MLA Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri elected as Karnataka Speaker

BJP MLA Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has been elected as Karnataka Assembly Speaker. Kageri was the only one to file the nomination papers for the post following Congress MLA KR Ramesh Kumar’s resignation as the Speaker after Congress-JD(S) coalition government lost the trust vote. CM BS Yediyurappa was present when Kageri submitted his nomination papers.

6. Rajiv Kumar to be new Finance Secretary

The government has designated financial services secretary Rajiv Kumar as finance secretary. The appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) gave its approval to the designation of the 1984 Jharkhand cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer as the finance secretary.

8. Former Cognizant exec Debashis Chatterjee to take over as Mindtree CEO

Former Cognizant executive Debashis Chatterjee will take over as Mindtree’s new Chief Executive Officer on August 1, CNBC-TV18 reported quoting sources. Chatterjee served as the executive vice president and president, global delivery, in Cognizant before he quit in May after serving the company for 23 years.

9. Bengaluru is India’s best student city, London global best: Study

Bengaluru has been rated as the best student city in India and London the world’s best based on a ranking that focuses on the number and performance of universities, employers hiring, the city’s affordability, desirability and quality of life, and the diversity of student body.

London is the world’s best student city for the second consecutive year, according to the sixth edition of the QS Best Student Cities Ranking compiled by global consultancy QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

The 2019 global rankings of 120 top student cities released here on Wednesday include four Indian cities: Bengaluru (81st), Mumbai (85th), Delhi (113th) and Chennai (115th).

10. Sai Praneeth enters top 20 in World Badminton Rankings

Indian shuttler B.Sai Praneeth has jumped four places to enter in the top 20 players in the latest World Badminton Rankings. Praneeth is now World No.19 in Men’s Singles badminton ranking. Among other Indian Men’s singles shuttlers, Kidambi Srikanth has maintained his tenth position while Sameer Verma retains his 13th position.

11. Former RBI Deputy Governor Subir Vithal Gokarn passes away

Former Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Dr Subir Vithal Gokarn (60) passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was the RBI Deputy Governor from 2009-12 and oversaw Monetary Policy Research and Financial Markets department.
