- Shahid Abbasi nominated interim Prime Minister of Pakistan
Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will run the PML-N government as interim prime minister of Pakistan until Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shehbaz is elected as member of Parliament.
The Pakistan Supreme Court has disqualified the 67-year-old Sharif for dishonesty and ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal, forcing the embattled leader out of office.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag and celebrated athlete P T Usha have been named in a 12-member Committee which has been handed the job to pick this year’s Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardees.
The Committee, to be headed by Justice (retd) C K Thakkar, will meet on August 3 to select this year’s awardees.

Bengaluru may be India’s Silicon Valley but ranks at the 40th spot among the top 50 global cities that foster high-potential women entrepreneurs, according to a report by tech giant Dell.
It is the only other Indian city in the top 50 list is Delhi at the 49th position.
Singapore was at the 8th spot the only city from Asia Pacific and Japan region.
New York topped the list followed by Bay Area (US), London (UK), Boston (US) and Stockholm (Sweden).

Public sector Indian Overseas Bank has offered Bharat Bill Payment System, introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India, for its customers.
BBPS is an integrated bill payment system that offers inter-operable online bill payments to customers.
The services include online payments of electricity, telecommunication, DTH, water and gas bills.

Mass rapid transportation technologies such as hyperloop, metrino and pod taxis could soon be a reality in India after Niti Aayog cleared half-a-dozen proposals of the transport ministry exploring options to improve public transport.
A senior government official at Niti Aayog told ET, the think tank approved the proposals of the transport ministry with a condition that the ministry conducts trial run of all these technologies and puts in place safety measures before starting commercially operation.
- NPCI receives final nod from RBI to function as Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) received a final nod from the Reserve Bank of India to function as the Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit (BBPCU) and operate the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
Last year, BBPS operating units received in-principle approval from Reserve Bank of India took part in the pilot.
The Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) is a RBI conceptualized system driven by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
- GST council panel to select national anti-profiteering authority
The GST Council has formed a selection committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary to identify and recommend eligible persons for appointment as the chairman and members of the National Anti-profiteering Authority.
The National Anti-profiteering Authority under GST is tasked with ensuring that the full benefits of a reduction in tax on supply of goods or services flow to the consumers.
The National Anti-profiteering Authority is to be headed by a senior officer of the level of a secretary to the government of India and is to have four technical members from the Centre and/or the states, according to the provisions of the law.

Iran successfully launched an advanced satellite-carrying rocket into space, the nation’s state news channel announced.
Experts describe the “Simorgh” rocket, whose name translates to “phoenix” in Persian, as a copy of North Korea’s Unha rocket, which uses some of the same technology as a long-range ballistic missile.
The Iranian state media said the “Simorgh,” which took off from the Imam Khomeini National Space Station in the northern city of Semnan, was capable of carrying a 550-pound satellite.

Scientists from NASA for first time are planning to chase the shadow of the moon using two of NASA’s WB-57F research jets during the upcoming total solar eclipse in US.
The purpose of the chase is to capture the clearest ever images of the Sun’s outer atmosphere.
The research jets (planes) will have twin telescopes mounted on the noses of the planes to capture clearest images of Sun’s corona to date.
The corona of the sun is heated to millions of degrees, but the lower atmospheric layers like the photosphere are only heated to a few thousand degrees.

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy climbed to 17th position in the latest BWF (Badminton World Federation) world rankings.
Prannoy recently emerged victorious in the US Open Grand Prix Gold title after beating Parupalli Kashyap in the final.He was previously ranked 23. Ajay Jayaram is ranked 16th, while B Sai Praneeth is 19th place recently.
Another Indian shuttler Sameer Verma climbed four places from 32 to 28 and became the fourth Indian to qualify for the World Championship. Indian, Kidambi Srikanth is highest rankedat number 8.
- Indonesia to host AFC U-19 championship 2018
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Competition Committee has officially awarded Indonesia the hosting of the AFC U-19 championship next year. The decision was made during a meeting of the AFC competition committee.
The AFC U-19 championship is scheduled to be held from October 18 to November 4 of next year. The committee felt that Indonesia was regarded as the most favorable among the bidding.
