1. Lt Gen Paramjit Singh is appointed as the next Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army
Lt Gen Paramjit Singh is appointed as the next Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army. He will oversee various operations of the Indian Army including along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. He will take over the position on 15 October 2019. He will replace Lt Gen Anil Chauhan who has been appointed new General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.
2. 5th Dharma-Dhamma conference being held in Rajgir, Bihar
5th International Dharma-Dhamma conference is being held Rajgir International Convention Centre in Rajgir, Bihar from 27-28 July 2019. The conference was inaugurated Union Minister of State Kiren Rijiju who is also the Chief Guest of Conference. It is being hosted by Rajgir for 2nd time.
3. Khelo India Youth Games 2020 to be held in Guwahati
Union Minister of Sports Kiren Rijiju announced that 3rd edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Guwahati, Assam between 18-30 January 2020. Khelo India programme’s inaugural edition was held in New Delhi in 2018, while Pune hosted 2nd edition in 2019. 2020 Games will be conducted in partnership with Indian Olympic Association (IOA), School Games Federation of India (SGFI) & Assam as host State. The event will see a participation of over 10,000 athletes and officials from all over country and it will be held .
4. Mary Kom wins gold medal at President’s Cup ahead of world c’ships
Six-time world champion Mary Kom won the gold medal at the 23rd President’s Cup in Indonesia’s Labuan Bajo. The Olympic bronze medallist boxer defeated Australian April Franks 5-0 in the final. “Winning means you’re willing to go longer, work harder & give more effort than anyone else,” Mary Kom tweeted following her victory.
5. Veteran Congress leader Jaipal Reddy passes away aged 77
Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Jaipal Reddy passed away aged 77 at a private hospital in Hyderabad after suffering from pneumonia. He served as Information and Broadcasting Minister in the IK Gujral government, and was the Urban Development Minister and later served as the Petroleum Minister in Manmohan Singh’s government.
6. Boxer Ashish wins gold, India bag 8 medals at Thailand Open
Asian Championships silver-medallist boxer Ashish Kumar won the first gold medal of his international career at the Thailand Open in Bangkok. Ashish won the gold after defeating Korea’s Kim Jinjae 5-0 in the 75 kg category. The Indian contingent ended the tournament with one gold, four silver and three bronze.
7. Reliance Jio becomes largest telecom operator in India within 3 years of starting operations
Within three years of starting its commercial operations, Reliance Jio has become the country’s largest telecom operator with a subscriber base of 331.3 million, surpassing Vodafone Idea which on July 26 reported a decline in its user base to 320 million by June 2019. According to the financial results reported by Reliance Industries last week, its subsidiary Reliance Jio had a user base of 331.3 million by June 2019.
8. Corporation Bank pact with Bajaj Allianz
Corporation Bank has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co Ltd for providing insurance cover for accidental death to the specified saving bank account holders of the bank under the group personal accident insurance policy of the insurer.
A press release by the bank said here that Murala Paul Kennedy, General Manager,Corporation Bank, and TA Ramalingam, Senior President, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co Ltd, inked the pact recently.
9. World Hepatitis Day, observed on July 28
World Hepatitis Day, observed on July 28 every year, aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis — a group of infectious diseases known as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E — and encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

10. PepsiCo to invest Rs 514 cr to set up snacks plant in UP; create 1,500 jobs
Food and beverages major PepsiCo India on Sunday said it plans to invest Rs 514 crore over the next three years to set up a greenfield snacks manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh.
The new investment plan is in line with PepsiCo’s goal to double its snacks business in the country by 2022 and is expected to help create over 1,500 jobs, both direct and indirect, the company said in a statement.
