  1. Vijay Goel, Nitin Gadkari flag off 10th ‘Slum Yuva Daud’

Union Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports Vijay Goel flagged off the 11th Slum Yuva Daud. Daud started from Vijay Chowk and ended at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium. More than 3000 youths from various Delhi slums participated with the tricolour in their hands. Each participant was awarded medals and certificates.

  1. Kiren Rijiju inaugurates RIWATCH Museum in Arunachal Pradesh

Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Research Institution of World Ancient, Traditional, Culture & Heritage (RIWATCH) Museum at Roing in Arunachal Pradesh.

The MoS also pressed for documentation and research to preserve age-old culture and traditions of the state and exhorted people to shoulder the responsibility to pass on traditional and cultural values to the next generation.

State Art & Culture Minister, Mohesh Chai said that according to UNESCO report, there are 32 languages in Arunachal Pradesh that are on the verge of extinction and the state government is initiating programmes and policies to find out and to revive those minor and major tribal languages.

  1. Kerala to host literary festival with ‘Tolerance’ as theme

At a time when the country witnesses raging debate over intolerance, Kerala is getting ready to host a literary festival with tolerance as the core theme.

Creative writers, journalists, theatre and film personalities will deliberate on tolerance at the fifth edition of South India Writers Ensemble (SIWE), to be held at Chengannur, a sleepy town in the coastal Alappuza district, from July 24.

Organised by People for Performing Arts and More, an art-cum-cultural outfit, the three-day annual literary gathering is aimed at bringing about an enriching interaction between writers from different languages and regions.

  1. SBI and Carlyle to jointly acquire GE Capital’s stake in SBI Card

State Bank of India (SBI), the Carlyle Group and GE have announced that they have signed definitive agreements, whereby SBI and Carlyle Group will acquire GE Capital’s entire stake in SBI Card, the second-largest credit card franchise in India.

SBI Card is operated through two joint venture companies , SBI Cards & Payment Services and GE Capital Business Process Management Services, which issue credit cards and process card transactions in the Indian market.

  1. Partnership with PNB MetLife to provide insurance cover for borrowers

Karnataka Bank, in association with its PNB MetLife, has launched Met Loan and Life Suraksha (MLLS), a single premium plan covering the loan liability of a customer.

The bank has also introduced KBL MLLS, an app for its employees to instantly calculate the insurance cover and premium based on loan liability of the borrowers.

Quoting Mahabaleshwara MS, MD and CEO, Karnataka Bank has been in a partnership with MetLife for the last 15 years.

6.  Iran and Iraq sign accord to boost military cooperation

Iran and Iraq signed an agreement to step up military cooperation and the fight against “terrorism and extremism”, Iranian media reported, an accord which is likely to raise concerns in Washington.

Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan and his Iraqi counterpart Erfan al-Hiyali signed a memorandum of understanding which also covered border security, logistics and training.

  1. Vishnu Vardhan bags 2nd Challenger title

Vishnu Vardhan and Toshihide Matsui pipped Russia’s Evgeny Karlovskiy and Evgeny Tyurnev 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 10-7 in a tight final of the President’s Cup in Astana.

Vishnu Vardhan won his second Challenger level title of the season with Japanese partner Toshihide Matsui but four other Indians, including Leander Paes, tumbled out of various ATP events across the globe.
