- Zeliang appointed as Nagaland CM
Nagaland Governor PB Acharya has invited former chief minister TR Zeliang to be sworn-in as the Chief Minister. The Governor has further directed him to prove majority in the Assembly on or before July 22.
This comes after the Nagaland Assembly was, earlier in the day, adjourned sine die after Chief Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu failed to turn up at the floor test session.
- Cabinet approves MOC in respect of tax matters between India and BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa
The Union Cabinet has given the approval for the signing of Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) in respect of tax matters between India and the Revenue administrations of BRICS countries namely, Brazil, Russian Federation, China and South Africa
The MoC aims to further promote cooperation amongst the BRICS Revenue administrations in international forum on common areas of interest in tax matters and in the area of capacity building and knowledge sharing.
- Cabinet approves Cadre Review of Indian Defence Accounts Service, IDAS
The Union has approved the Cadre Review of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) under the Ministry of Defence.
The Cadre review of IDAS has come in the wake of the functional requirements, cadre structure and career progression of the officials belonging to the service.
- Cabinet apprised of MoU between India and Netherlands on cooperation in space technology
The Union Cabinet has been apprised of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Netherlands on cooperation in the exploration and uses of outer space for peaceful purposes. The MoU was signed on May 11 & 22, 2017 at Bangalore and The Hague respectively.
Benefits:
This MoU shall enable the following areas of cooperation such as, space science, technology and applications including remote sensing of the earth; satellite communication and satellite based navigation; Space science and planetary exploration; use of spacecraft and space systems and ground system; and application of space technology.

The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for IRDAI’s admission as a signatory to International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU).
The International Association of Insurance Supervisors is a global framework for cooperation and information exchange between insurance supervisors.
International Association of Insurance Supervisors, Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding is a statement of its signatories’ intent to cooperate in the Field of information exchange as well as procedure for handling information requests.
- Cabinet approves Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2017
The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for the promulgation of the Central Goods and Services Tax (Extension to Jammu & Kashmir) Ordinance, 2017 and replacement of the Ordinance by the Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
The Ordinance has extended the provisions of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 referred to as (CGST Act) to the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Ordinance has been promulgated on 8th July, 2017 and the Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2017 will be tabled in the current session of the Parliament.

- Cabinet approves revision of Indian Community Welfare Fund guidelines
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved revision of the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) guidelines.
ICWF, set up in 2009, is aimed at assisting Overseas Indian nationals in times of distress and emergency in the most deserving cases on a means tested basis.
The revised guidelines being made broad-based seek to expand the scope of welfare measures that can be extended through the Fund.
- Scheme for setting up small industry for rural women
Ministry of MSME is implementing Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) which is a major credit-linked subsidy programme aimed at generating self-employment opportunities through establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector.
The maximum cost of projects is Rs. 25 lakh in the manufacturing sector and Rs. 10 lakh in the service sector. General category beneficiaries can avail of margin money subsidy of 25% of the project cost in rural areas and 15% in urban areas.
- Uber launches ‘Decongest India’ to promote mobility, curb pollution
Uber has launched a nationwide campaign called “Decongest India”, starting with New Delhi, to curb congestion and pollution.
As part of the campaign, the cab aggregator will focus on reducing congestion through shared mobility across Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru in the coming days.
The campaign’s inaugural leg in New Delhi was announced in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari.

Britain’s first woman Sikh MP Preet Kaur Gill has been elected to an influential cross-party panel in the UK Parliament that examines the workings of the Home Office.
Gill, who won the Edgbaston seat for the Labour party in the June 8 snap general election, was elected to the Home Affairs Select Committee in the UK Parliament.
- Indians win gold and bronze at first global robotics Olympiad
A group of seven Indian students has bagged two awards at the first global robotics Olympiad in the US where 157 countries participated.
The students, who hail from Mumbai, won gold for Zhang Heng Engineering Design Award and bronze for Global Challenge Match at the international robotics challenge organised by FIRST Global in Washington
- FIFA have lifted their ban on the Sudan Football Association
World football’s governing body FIFA HASlifted the ban on the Sudan Football Association (SFA) imposed on it for the failure to abide by agreements mentioned in articles 14 and 19 of the FIFA statute.
The Bureau of the FIFA Council has lifted the suspension that was imposed on the Sudan Football Association (SFA) for its failure to comply with its obligations stipulated in articles 14 and 19 of the FIFA Statutes following a decree issued by Sudan’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice on 2 June 2017.
