1. Sharath Kamal voted IOC Sportsperson of the Year
Sharath Kamal voted the Sportsperson of the Year in the annual Indian Oil Sports Conclave. The other nominees were cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, Grandmaster B Adhiban, hockey player Simranjeet Singh and table tennis player Manika Batra.

2. IFFI has been scheduled to be held from 20-28 November 2019 in Panaji, Goa
The Golden Jubilee Edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has been scheduled to be held from 20-28 November 2019 in Panaji, Goa. The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar announced the schedule regarding IFFI 2019.
IFFI 2019 is to be organised jointly by the Directorate of Film Festivals and state-run Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) in Panaji. The celebrations in the year 2019 will mark the 50th edition of IFFI. Russia is to partner with IFFI.
3. LS passes National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2019
The National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was passed by Lok Sabha, to allow NIA to probe terrorist acts against Indians and Indian interests abroad. The Bill seeks to give more teeth to National Investigation Agency (NIA). NIA was set up in 2009 in aftermath Mumbai terror attack that had claimed 166 lives.
4. Vinesh Phogat wins gold medal at Yasar Dogu International
India women wrestler Vinesh Phogat has defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Poleshchuk and won gold at Yasar Dogu International in the 53kg category.
Phogat beat her Russian opponent 9-5 in the final match to bag the gold medal. Phogat was the third wrestler to win gold in the women’s competition for India. Earlier, Seema (50kg) and Manju (59kg) triumphed in their respective category.
5. India bags 2 Gold medals at ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany
India bagged two Gold and one Silver medal in the Women’s 10-metre Air Rifle event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany. In the Individual section of the category, Elavenil Valarivan claimed the top honours with a total score of 251.6, while another Indian Mehuli Ghosh settled for a Silver with 250.2 points.
6. Athletics: Salahuddin takes gold in Kyrgyzstan
Mohammed Salahuddin came up with another big one on Sunday and won the men’s triple jump gold at the Tatyana Kolpakova memorial international athletics meet at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The 25-year-old’s 16.53m in the second round brought him an easy gold with the silver going to a Kazakh athlete with 15.06m.
7. Spektr-RG: Telescope launched by Russia into space
Russia launched a Powerful X-ray space telescope called Spektr-RG from cosmodrome in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in a joint project with Germany. The launch of telescope was originally scheduled for 21 June 2019 but was postponed twice because of a battery problem.
It is launched to observe black holes, neutron stars and magnetic fields. It is a space observatory that intends to replace Spektr-R, known as the Russian Hubble.
8. Kiran More named USA interim coach
Kiran More, the former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has been named as the interim coach of the USA cricket team. He will take over from the former coach Pubudu Dassanayake after the 49-year-old announced his resignation due to differences with USA Cricket.
9. July, 14, Bastille Day is the French national day
Celebrated on July, 14, Bastille Day is the French national day and the most important bank holiday in France! Setting the storming of the Bastille in 1789 as an essential part of the French History. The 14th July has become a major public holiday, traditionally considered as the symbol of the French Revolution.
10. Fuzhou (China) to host 2020 session of World Heritage Committee
The city of Fuzhou (China) will host the next session of the World Heritage Committee in 2020. This decision concluded the work of the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, meeting in Baku since 30 June.
During this year’s session, the World Heritage Committee inscribed a total of 29 new sites on the World Heritage List (one in Africa, two in the Arab States, ten in the Asia Pacific region, 15 in Europe and North America and one in Latin America).
11. RBI slaps Rs 7 crore fine on SBI for non-compliance of directions
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has levied a penalty of Rs 7 crore on State Bank of India (SBI) based on findings of an inspection report. The regulatory lapses relate to bad loans classification, fraud risk management and reporting of frauds.
