1. Dr P K Warrier, renowned Ayurvedic physician passes away at 100

Dr. PK Warrier, an internationally renowned Ayurvedic physician and managing trustee of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala (AVS) passed away on July 10, 2021 at his residence in Malappuram, Kerala. He was 100.

Dr. Warrer breathed his last, five weeks after he celebrated his centenary birthday on June 8. He was the Doyen of Ayurveda, a visionary who played a key role in popularising classical and authentic Ayurvedic treatment across the world.

2. Samir Banerjee: Indian-American wins Wimbledon boys singles title

Indian-American Samir Banerjee won his first junior Grand Slam singles title by beating Victor Lilov in the Wimbledon boys’ singles final on July 11, 2021.

The 17-year-old was playing his second junior Grand Slam and he became the new Junior Boys Wimbledon champion with a straight-sets (7-5, 6-3) win over Victor Lilov. The Wimbledon boys’ singles lasted for one hour and 22 minutes.

3. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurates India’s first Liquefied Natural Gas plant in Nagpur

The Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on July 11, 2021, inaugurated India’s first private Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

India’s first LNG facility plant has been set up by Baidyanath Ayurvedic Group on Kamptee Road near Nagpur-Jabalpur Highway.

4. Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill, 2021

The Uttar Pradesh government on July 11, 2021, announced a new population bill known as the Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill, 2021 on World Population Day.

Prepared by the Uttar Pradesh Law Commission (UPLC), the Draft of the Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill, 2021 aims at curbing the population menace in the state. Uttar Pradesh, with a population of around 220 million, is India’s most populous state.

5. Syed Osman Azhar Maqsusi won Commonwealth Points of Light award

Hyderabad’s hunger activist Syed Osman Azhar Maqsusi, who has been feeding thousands of people every day as part of his food drive ‘Hunger Has No Religion’ was awarded a top UK award recently.

In order to honour Maqsusi’s efforts, he was conferred with the Commonwealth Points of Light award for his drive that helps to feed 1,500 people on a daily basis. The award is for those ‘outstanding individuals who are making a change in their community.

6. Argentina beats Brazil to Lift Copa America 2021

Lionel Messi-led Argentina beat Neymar’s Brazil 1-0 to win the Copa America final match, held at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. With this win, Lionel Messi has secured his first major international trophy.

The 2021 Copa America was the 47th edition of the annual international men’s football championship organised by South America’s football ruling body CONMEBOL.

7. World Malala Day: 12 July

The United Nations has declared 12th July as World Malala Day to honour the young activist, Malala Yousafzai. Malala Day is commemorated, the birthday of Malala Yousafzai to honour women and children’s rights around the world.

8. India’s first Cryptogamic Garden Inaugurated in Uttarakhand

India’s first cryptogamic garden, with around 50 different species grown, has been inaugurated in Deoban area of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

The garden is situated at a height of 9,000 feet and is spread over an area of three acres. Located in the district’s Chakrata town, the garden was inaugurated by social activist Anoop Nautiyal.

9. World Population Day celebrated on 11th July

World Population Day is observed globally on 11th July every year. This day is observed to raise awareness among people about the impact of a growing population and issues including gender equality, the importance of family planning, poverty, maternal health, human rights, etc.

This year theme of World Population Day 2021: “the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on fertility”.

10. National Dolphin Research Centre to come up in Patna

Much-awaited National Dolphin Research Centre (NDRC) will soon come up in Patna. Process to set up the research centre has started.

Opening up of the research centre will be a big step towards conservation of endangered Gangetic River dolphin.

To set up the research centre, NDRC is coming up on 4,400 square metre plots of land in premises of Patna University, near banks of River Ganga.

11. India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation

21st Session of India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) was held recently.

This session was co-chaired by Piyush Goyal, Commerce & Industry Minister and Mr. Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of Italy.

Both the countries held discussions on bilateral trade & Investment and economic cooperation across the areas of Textile, Food Processing, Railways, Leather, Start-ups and promotion of SMEs. All these sectors play significant role in growth of economy and employment generation.
