1. Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar resumed his office as the Force Commander of UNMISS

Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar resumed his office as the Force Commander of UNMISS. Lieutenant General Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar has been newly appointed as the Force Commander of the UN mission in South Sudan. He assumed charge in Juba on July 6. The appointment was announced by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in May.

2. Gully Boy won NETPAC award in Bucheon film festival

Film-maker Zoya Akhtar’s directorial ‘Gully Boy’ won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea.

NETPAC Jury Committee, comprised of NETPAC members and film professionals which features newer genres and varied stories of comedy, fantasy and drama. ‘Gully Boy’, features actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is based on the lives of street rappers. The film performed well in the Indian and overseas market.

3. Goa State government is planning to make HIV tests mandatory before the registration of marriages

Goa State government is planning to make HIV tests mandatory before the registration of marriages. The announcement was made by Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. The law will be placed in the state Assembly after it gets clearance from the law department.

4. Arun Kumar appointed as DGCA Director General

Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved appointment of Arun Kumar, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, to Union Ministry of Civil Aviation as the new Director General (DG) in Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in rank and pay of Additional Secretary.

5. Northeast Frontier Railway’s Plan Bee wins Best Innovation Award

A unique strategy adopted by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) called ‘Plan Bee’ to keep wild elephants away from train tracks has won the ‘Best Innovation Award’ in Indian Railways for the 2018-19 fiscal. The prize is awarded by Indian Railways and comprises of a citation and a cash award of Rs.3 lakh.

What is Plan Bee?

It is an amplifying system that imitates the buzz of a swarm of honey bees to keep wild elephants away from railway tracks.

6. National Museum of Indian Cinema’s news bulletin launched

A fortnightly bulletin of the National Museum of Indian Cinema as “NMIC Bulletin“, brought out by the Films Division was launched in Mumbai, Maharashtra. About NMIC Bulletin National Museum of Indian Cinema are not just about artefacts kept in them but are also about witnessing journey that made cinema possible as well as about narrating untold stories behind those cinemas.

7. Former India Football goalkeeper A.U. Celestine , passed away

Former India goalkeeper AU Celestine died in Chennai after a brief illness, his family said. He was 73 and is survived by his wife and son. Celestine passed away at a hospital late on Monday night where he was undergoing treatment. He had represented India in the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia in 1969.

8. Dr. Nalin Singhal appointed as CMD, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL)

The ACC has reportedly approved the appointment of Dr. Nalin Singhal for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) Presently Dr. Singhal is serving as CMD CEL.

It is to mention that last year in December 2018 Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) had selected Dr.Nalin Singhal for the post of Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Dr. Singhal has served also in past with IRCTC as ED-Marketing before joining CEL.

9. INS Tarkash reaches Morocco for overseas development programme

To establish India’s credentials as a net security provider in the Indo-Pacific region, Indian Naval
Ship Tarkash reached Tangier in Morocco on Monday for a three-day visit. It is part of an ongoing overseas deployment by the Indian Navy to the Mediterranean Sea, Africa and Europe.

It will now strengthen the friendship between India and Morocco. The ship would also take part in numerous professional, social and sporting interactions planned with the Royal Moroccan Navy.

10. Dutee Chand 1st Indian to win 100m gold at World University Games

Sprinter Dutee Chand bagged gold medal in the women’s 100-metre event at the 30th World University Games in Italy’s Naples, clocking a time of 11.32 seconds. This is the first time that an Indian has won a 100-metre gold in any edition of the World University Games. “Pull me down, I will come back stronger!” Dutee tweeted after her win.

11. Toran Yadav, a para-athlete silver medals winner : 4th World Wealth Yoga Championship

Para-athlete Toran Yadav from chhattisgarh has won 3 silver medals at 4th World Wealth Yoga Championship in Europe. The 19 year old started yoga at the age of 9 and soon was selected to represent India.
