1. World Population Day 2024 – July 11

The world is getting ready for World Population Day on July 11. This event happens every year but is becoming more important as the world changes so quickly. Since it was created by the UN in 1989, this day has been an important way to bring attention to important population problems that affect everyone on Earth.

How and why World Population Day came to be

There was a turning point in history that led to the start of World Population Day. Five billion people lived in the world on July 11, 1987. This was a huge number at the time. A senior demographer at the World Bank named Dr. KC Zachariah was interested in this amazing event and came up with the idea of celebrating it every year. Because the UN knew it was important to deal with problems linked to population, they agreed with this idea and made World Population Day official in 1989.

World Population Day has grown into a strong way to teach and advocate since it began. It has always brought important problems like family planning, reproductive health, gender equality, and sustainable development to the public’s attention. Over the years, this celebration has been very important in shaping policies, changing public opinion, and getting things done at the local, national, and foreign levels.

2. PM Modi To Receive Russia’s Highest Civilian Honour For “Outstanding Service”

The Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 and was handed to him in a ceremony at St. Catherine’s Hall in the Moscow Kremlin. The order was given to the Prime Minister of India for his important work in building a strong strategic relationship between Russia and India as well as goodwill between the two countries.

The Award’s History

Russia’s highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, was first given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019. The official ceremony, on the other hand, will now happen on Tuesday at the famous St. Catherine’s Hall in the Moscow Kremlin. Tsar Peter the Great created this prestigious award in 1698, and it is only given to people who have done the most outstanding work for the Russian government, whether they are in the military or as civilians.

3. Tamil writer Sivashankari selected for Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award

In Tamil literature, the prestigious Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award has been given to the famous author Sivashankari. Her huge contributions to the rich tapestry of Tamil literary culture and her role in shaping modern Indian literature are recognized by this coveted award.

The Sushila Narayana Reddy Trust gives out the Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards in Indian literature. At the famous Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad on July 29, 2024, the award ceremony is set to take place. This date is very important because it is also the 93rd birthday celebration of Dr. C. Narayana Reddy, the famous Telugu artist and scholar who the award is named after.

4. Agri-Entrepreneur Sopna Kallingal Secures Spice Award

6. Dr. Soumya Swaminathan Appointed as Principal Adviser for National TB Elimination Programme

Lt. Gen. Shankar Narayan, NM, VSM, became the new Commandant of the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), which is generally seen as the best hospital in the Indian Armed Forces. This was a big change in the leadership of the Armed Forces Medical Services. This appointment starts a new part of the hospital’s long and distinguished past and promises to bring new ideas to military health care.

The first step Lt Gen Narayan took in becoming a military doctor was to join in the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He was in the 1982 (‘U’) batch. This school, which is known for turning out some of India’s best military doctors, was the start of his amazing career.

9. Gagan Narang Appointed as India’s Chef-De-Mission for Paris Olympics 2024

Gagan Narang, who has been to four Olympics and won a bronze medal in 2012, has been named India’s Chef-De-Mission for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This choice was made after Mary Kom quit her job because of health problems.

10. Azerbaijan Army Participates in “Birlestik-2024” Joint Military Exercises in Kazakhstan

People from the Azerbaijan Army have come to Kazakhstan to take part in the operational-tactical command-staff exercise “Birlestik-2024.” From July 11 to July 17, this joint military drill will take place at the Oymasha training ground and at Cape Tokmak in the Caspian Sea. Together with Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan’s Defense Ministries are putting on the train.

Azerbaijan’s group includes commandos from the Land Forces, people who work in search and rescue and parachuting, Su-25 planes from the Air Force, and Navy ships that patrol and descend.

By simulating joint operational scenarios, the “Birlestik-2024” drill aims to improve cooperation and readiness in the region. About 4,000 soldiers and 700 pieces of military equipment will be involved, and their main goal will be to coordinate a unified reaction to localized armed conflicts in the region.

11. ICICI Prudential Launches India’s First Oil & Gas ETF

The new ETF is based on the Nifty Oil & Gas Index, which is a carefully chosen list of up to 15 stocks on the National Stock Exchange. The index is put together according to strict rules that make sure it is diverse and doesn’t become too concentrated:

One company can’t have more than 33% of the index weight. Each of the top three companies can only make up 62% of the index as a whole. The goal of this balanced approach is to give investors a wide range of opportunities in the oil and gas business.

12. Colombo Security Conclave Welcomes Bangladesh as Fifth Member

Bangladesh became the fifth country to join the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC), a regional security group. The announcement was made at the 8th Deputy National Security Adviser (DNSA) level meeting, which was held online by Mauritius. The Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius are all part of the CSC. Seychelles is an observer state.

Increase in membership

Bangladesh was officially accepted into the CSC. It joined India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives as the fourth member. Mauritius became a member in March 2022, and Bangladesh’s addition makes the regional security system even stronger.

People from India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, the Maldives, Bangladesh, and Seychelles all showed up to the meeting. They looked over decisions made at earlier meetings and work on the CSC’s Roadmap of Activities for 2023–2024.
