1. Elisa de Anda Madrazo Assumes FATF Presidency for 2024-2026

Elisa de Anda Madrazo of Mexico is now the head of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). She will be in charge from July 2024 to June 2026. This change is a big deal for the global financial watchdog because Madrazo brings a new point of view that will help fight financial crimes and the funding of terrorists.

Promise to Follow Core Principles

Madrazo’s presidency is based on a strong dedication to openness, variety, and inclusion. The FATF will use these principles to lead its work on governance, standards, and engaging with stakeholders. They show that the group is committed to representing the different realities and points of view of the world’s people.

2. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi Appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi has been named Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. He takes over from Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, who is retiring on December 28, 2023. This choice was backed by the Supreme Court colleagues in December of last year, and it was made public by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on July 3.

On July 5, Justice Sarangi became the 15th Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. The oath was given at the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi by Governor CP Radhakrishnan. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato, and a number of judges and high-level government officials were at the event.

3. LIC Chairman Siddhartha Mohanty Re-Designated Managing Director & CEO

The head of the state-owned life insurance company Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Siddhartha Mohanty, has been promoted to CEO and managing director as of June 30, 2024. There is no word yet on whether the life insurance company will choose a new chairman.

A bit about Siddhartha Mohanty

In April 2023, Siddhartha Mohanty became the Board Chair of LIC of India. He had been the Managing Director of LIC of India before that. He has a Bachelor’s degree in law, a Post Graduate Certificate in business management, and a Master’s degree in political science.

In 1985, he became a Direct Recruit Officer for the LIC. Over more than 35 years, he has worked at LIC in several different roles and areas. He has a lot of knowledge in marketing life insurance, human resources, law, and investments.

He was Sr. Divisional Manager in Charge, Regional Manager of the Marketing Vertical, Chief of Investment: Monitoring & Accounting, Executive Director of Legal, and CEO of LIC Housing Finance Ltd, which is one of the biggest housing finance companies in India and a listed associate company of LIC of India.

4. World Zoonoses Day 2024 – July 2026

5. Lewis Hamilton Wins the British Grand Prix 2024

The 2024 British Grand Prix was won by Lewis Hamilton. He won nine times on any track, making him the first F1 driver to do so. He also added 104 more wins to his record.

His last race was at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in December 2021. That was the year Red Bull driver Max Verstappen beat him to win the title. Max Verstappen of Red Bull came in 1.465 seconds behind, giving him a bigger lead in the championship standings with 84 points. Lando Norris of McLaren came in third after being passed four laps from the end.

Oscar Piastri of McLaren came in fourth, and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari came in fifth. Fifth place went to Nico Hulkenberg for Haas, and eighth place went to Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso in their Aston Martin. Alex Albon scored two points for Williams, and Yuki Tsunoda came in tenth for the RB team owned by Red Bull.

6. Belarus Joins SCO as 10th Member

Belarus is now the 10th country to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). As a result, they were accepted into the SCO at its 24th Meeting of Heads of State.

In its first year, the SCO had only six members. Now, it has 10 full members, two observer countries, and 14 dialogue partners, making it a trans-regional group.

7. Writer Sivashankari Receives Dr. C. Narayana Reddy Literary Award

Sivashankari, a famous Tamil author, has been chosen to receive the Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award, which comes with a scarf, a ₹5 lakh cash prize, and a souvenir. Sivashankari has written 150 stories, 15 travelogues, seven collections of essays, four study papers, two biographies, and 36 novels in Tamil.

8. Rachel Reeves Becomes UK’s First Female Finance Minister

Rachel Reeves, a former Bank of England economist, has been appointed as the UK’s first female finance minister after Labour’s landslide victory, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.
