1. Injeti Srinivas appointed as the 1st Chairman of IFSCA

Retired 1983 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Odisha Cadre- Injeti Srinivas has been appointed as the 1st Chairman of the International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA) on 6th July 2020.

Injeti Srinivas has retired as the Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on 31st May 2020. He has been appointed for a period of three years as the Chairman of International Financial Services Centre Authority.

2. Mylan gets DCGI Approval to launch its Generic Version of Remdesivir ‘DESREM’ at Rs 4800

Global pharmaceutical company Mylan N.V was given approval by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for the launch of its generic version of Gilead Sciences Remdesivir drug for the treatment of COVID-19 positive patients in India. Mylan N.V is currently the second-largest company in the world for the manufacturing of generic and specialty pharmaceuticals.

3. Israel successfully launched its Intelligence Satellite Ofek-16 into LEO

From Central Israel’s Palmachim Airbase Israel has successfully launched its intelligence satellite ‘Ofek-16’ into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This is the 12th Satellite launched by Israel under its Ofek family of satellites. The Ofek-16 Satellite was launched as a payload of the rocket- Shavit 2. Ofek-16 is an optoelectronic reconnaissance (intelligence) satellite.

4. Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary to be upgraded into a National Park

After months of Controversy, the Assam State Government has decided for the up-gradation of the status of the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary to National Park. The decision was taken on 6th July 2020 and was announced by the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal.

5. Tamil Nadu’s G Akash becomes India’s 66th chess Grandmaster

Tamil Nadu’s G Akash became the country’s 66th chess Grandmaster while his statemate M Pranesh and Goa’s Ameya Audi earned International Master titles. Akash’s GM title was confirmed at the second council meet of International Chess Federation (FIDE) for the year 2020 held recently.

6. Doctor Who actor Earl Cameron dies at 102

Earl Cameron, who was one of the first Black actors to perform in mainstream British films and played supporting roles to enduring entertainment icons such as James Bond and the title character in Doctor Who before appearing in the U.N. thriller The Interpreter in his 80s, has died. He was 102.

7. Karnataka launches Weavers’ Sammaan Yojana

The State Government has allocated 10.96 crore rupees under the programme. There are 40,634 handloom weavers registered with Seva Sindhu software. Out of them 37,314 applications for financial assistance have been approved. Chief Minister said that all the eligible handloom weavers will be given financial assistance under Weavers Sammaan Yojana.

8. World Chocolate Day is observed on July 07

References to World Chocolate Day being observed on 7th of July have been recorded as early as 2009. Celebration of the day includes the consumption of chocolate. Some references indicate that this day celebrates the introduction of chocolate to Europe in 1550.
