1. Ursula von der Leyen is appointed as European Commission president

Ursula von der Leyen is appointed as European Commission president. Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen is appointed by European Union (EU) leaders as bloc’s next Chief Executive (European Commission president). She will be the first woman in history to hold the position.

She will be replacing Jean-Claude Juncker. She will lead the Union’s most important institution to set the bloc’s policy agenda. The Union is made up of 28 commissioners.

Ms.Ursula:

Ms.Ursula, the 60-year-old gynecologist, started her political career in her early age of 40. In 1990 she joined Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union party (CDU) and worked for 14 years.

2. Hima Das won the women’s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland

Hima Das won the women’s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. Star Indian sprinter Hima Das won the women’s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. She was clocked 23.65s on her way to the 200m gold. This was Hima’s first competitive 200m race of the year 2019.

3. Economic Survey for 2018-19 predicted a 7 percent GDP growth for financial year 2019-20

Economic Survey for 2018-19 predicted a 7 percent GDP growth for financial year 2019-20. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey for 2018-19 in the Parliament on 5 July.

The survey predicted a 7% GDP growth for financial year 2019-20 as compared to 6.8% in 2018-19. The Economic Survey was prepared by Chief Economic Advisor KV Subramanian.

4. USISPF to honour Wipro’s Azim Premji, Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga

US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) has selected MasterCard CEO and President Ajay Banga and Wipro Chairman Azim Premji for its 2019 Global Excellence Awards.

The two business leaders will receive 2019 Global Excellence Awards at USISPF’s 2nd Annual Leadership Summit scheduled to be held on 11 July in Washington, US.

5. 1st-ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair to be held in India

The First Ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. It scheduled from 11th till 13th October 2019. It is a unique initiative for taking farmers, artisans & other members of cooperatives directly to global trade arena.

6. MF Chief Christine Lagarde to now head European Central Bank

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde has been confirmed as new head of European Central bank (ECB). Her appointment would make her 1st woman to lead powerful institution of ECB.

Following Lagarde’s nomination as President of ECB she announced to temporarily relinquish her responsibilities as head of IMF. She will now step down 2 years before end of her second five-year term as IMF Chief.

7. Maharashtra ranks first in NITI Aayog’s ease of doing farm business

Maharashtra achieved first rank in NITI Aayog launched “Agricultural Marketing and Farmer Friendly Reforms Index (AMFFRI), which ranks states based on the degree of reforms they have undertaken in agricultural marketing. Gujarat ranks second with a score of 71.5 out of 100 closely followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” the Economic Survey 2018-19 highlighted.

8. RBI appoints A K Misra as additional director on J&K Bank board

The Reserve Bank of India has appointed its former executive director A K Misra as additional director on the board of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (J&K Bank), the lender said.

Misra shall hold the office for a period of two years up to July 2, 2021 or till further orders, whichever is earlier, a spokesman of the bank said on Thursday.

9. Harideesh Kumar is now Director of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection

B Harideesh Kumar has been appointed as director of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for a period of three years.

He took charge recently. Earlier, he was Executive Director of Canara Bank and brings with him a lot of domain related experience in the banking sector. Kumar hails from Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. He is a Post Graduate with a Degree in Law and started his banking career with erstwhile Vijaya Bank in the year 1978.

10. Formner Uttarakhand Governor Sudershan Agarwal Dies At 88

Former Uttarakhand Governor Sudershan Agarwal died on Wednesday after prolonged illness at a hospital in New Delhi, an official statement said. He was 88.

Agarwal had served as the second Governor of the hill state between 2003 and 2007 during which he also established a Him Jyoti School in the Sahastradhara area here. He had also been the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha.
