1. PM Modi launches Atmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4 launched the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge’ to help the local developers to create indigenous apps.
The innovation challenge aims at encouraging tech & startup communities to create world-class Made in India Apps. Under the challenge, innovators are invited to develop apps in eight categories.
The App innovation challenge has been launched in the combined partnership of the Ministry of Electronics &IT and Atal Innovation Mission-Niti Aayog.
2. Union HRD minister launched Fit Hai to Hit Hai India for school children
Union Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank‘ and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju launched the “Fit Hai To Hit Hai India” program under the Fit India campaign. The Fit India Talks sessions are being organized in association with the Sports Authority of India and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
3. Gujarat’s Zoya Khan becomes India’s 1st transgender operator of CSC
Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that Zoya Khan is India’s first transgender operator of a Common Service Centre (CSC) from Vadodara, Gujarat. “She has started CSC work with tele-medicine consultation,” said Prasad on Twitter. “Her vision is to support transgender community in making them digitally literate and give them better opportunities,” he added.
4. Sports Ministry to launch TOPS for Junior Athletes
The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju on July 3 announced that the government will launch Target Opium Podium Scheme (TOPS) for the junior athletes. The scheme will groom the junior athletes for 2024 and 2028 Olympics.
The announcement was made by the union minister during the ‘Fit Hai to Hit Hai India’ webinar which was attended by Indian Shuttler PV Sindhu, Union Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Indian football team skipper Sunil Chhetri.
5. International Day of Cooperatives is observed on 4 July
International Day of Cooperatives is observed on 4 July. The day is observed on the first Saturday of July every year. The day aims to raise awareness of cooperatives and extend the partnerships between the international cooperative movement and other organizations. 6. President inaugurated Dhamma Chakra Day 2020 celebrations on 4th July
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated Dhamma Chakra Day 2020 celebrations on 4th July 2020. The day is celebrated to mark Buddha’s First Sermon to his first 5 ascetic disciples at the Deer Park, Rsipatana in the present-day Sarnath near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Dhamma Chakra Day is celebrated by Buddhists across the world as the day of Dharma Chakra Parvattana or “Turning of the Wheel of Dharma”.
7. Germany is first major economy to phase out coal and nuclear
German lawmakers have finalized the country’s long-awaited phase-out of coal as an energy source, backing a plan that environmental groups say isn’t ambitious enough and free marketeers criticize as a waste of taxpayers’ money.
Bills approved by both houses of parliament Friday envision shutting down the last coal-fired power plant by 2038 and spending some 40 billion euros ($45 billion) to help affected regions cope with the transition.
8. Sanjay Raghuraman is new CEO of Kalyan Jewellers
Thrissur-based Kalyan Jewellers has strengthened its leadership team by appointing the company’s first CEO and inducted two new directors. It has promoted Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Raghuraman to the post of CEO.
The company has appointed ex-Shoppers Stop CEO Salil Nair and ex-L&K Saatchi & Saatchi CEO Anil Nair as additional directors on the board.
9. AIR to broadcast its first-ever ‘News Magazine’ programme in Sanskrit
The All India Radio (AIR) will broadcast its first- ever ‘News Magazine’ programme in Sanskrit on Saturday which will have news from the world of Sanskrit and prominent developments of the week, a statement said.
The programme titled, ‘Sanskrit Saptahiki’, will air from Saturday onwards and will be of 20 minutes duration. It can be heard on All India Radio FM News Channel (100.1 MHz frequency) every Saturday with a repeat broadcast on Sundays.
