1. Economic Survey predicts 7% GDP growth in 2019-20

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday tabled the Economic Survey for the financial year 2019-20 in the Rajya Sabha, projecting gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 7%. The Survey, prepared by Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian, projects the growth higher than the five-year low economic growth of 6.8% for the year ended March 31.

2. Chelsea appoint Frank Lampard as new manager

Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as their new manager on Thursday, as owner Roman Abramovich turned to a familiar face rather than an experienced hand to replace Maurizio Sarri and lead the club into a new era.

Lampard, adored by Chelsea fans as the heart and soul of the club’s midfield during a trophy-laden 13 years at Stamford Bridge, was handed a three-year contract having left second tier Derby County.

3. India’s longest electrified train tunnel in Vijayawada now ready for business

The railway division of Vijayawada commissioned the longest electrified tunnel in India on Wednesday. The 6.6 km tunnel stands as an engineering marvel situated between Cherlopalli and Rapuru stations which are a part of the recently completed Obulavaripalli – Venkatachalam railway line.

4. CCMB and CDFD inks MoU on Genetic Disease Diagnostics

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) to improve understanding and to enable better ways diagnosis and treatment of human genetic disorders.

Both CCMB and CDFD institutes have mutually agreed to undertake training and educational activities in genetic diagnostics.

5. Delhi Police signs pact to implement Rooftop Solar Energy Systems

Delhi Police signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to set up Rooftop Solar Energy Systems in more than 200 of its buildings across the city.

As per MoU, SECI will support implementation of grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on establishments of Delhi police. This is because solar energy is economical as well as environmental friendly.

6. Most Powerful Passport 2019: Japan tops, India ranks 86th

Henley Passport Index 2019 has recently published on its website that shows Japan and Singapore holds first position collectively as most powerful passports in the world. The index includes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations including micro-states and territories. India stands at 86th position in this index with a mobility score of 58. India shares this 86th position with Mauritiana and Sao Tome and Principe.

7. World Cup Semi Finals 2019: Which team will India face in World Cup Semi-Finals?

India became the second team to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals on July 2, 2019 after it beat Bangladesh by 28 runs in its penultimate group stage match. England became the third team to qualify for the world cup semi-finals, after its thumping 119-run victory over New Zealand on July 3.

New Zealand, which was previously one of the unbeaten teams in World Cup 2019 along with India, was seen struggling in its last three matches against Pakistan, Australia and England. Australia was the first team to qualify for the world cup semi-finals.
