1. Veteran Sri Lankan Politician R Sampanthan passed away at 91

R Sampanthan, an experienced politician in Sri Lanka and a moderate Tamil leader, died in a hospital while he was getting care. He was 91 years old. He was known for working for peace, fairness, and the dignity of Tamil people all his life.

From 2004 to 2008, Sampanthan was the leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). He was the second Tamil person to be the main opposition leader in the country where Sinhala is the majority language.

2. Lt. Gen. NS Raja Subramani assumed role as Vice Chief of Army Staff

The Vice Chief of Army Staff is now Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani. He had been General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command in Lucknow before.

In 1985, General Subramani joined the Garhwal Rifles and has been in the army for over 37 years. He has won many awards, such as the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.

3. Air India to Set Up South Asia’s Largest Flight Training School in Amravati

With an investment of over ₹200 crore, Air India is building South Asia’s biggest flight school in the Amravati area of Maharashtra. This project, which is set to start in the first quarter of the next fiscal year, aims to ensure a steady flow of pilots for the airline, which will need between 500 and 700 pilots each year to support its plans to grow after ordering 470 Airbus and Boeing planes in 2023.

A 10-acre plot in Amravati has been leased by Air India for thirty years from the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC). The facility will have 31 Piper single-engine planes and 3 Diamond twin-engine planes, which will teach 180 commercial pilots every year. The infrastructure includes a new 1,850-meter runway, up-to-date navigational aids, and facilities for landing at night. Over 300 days a year, the weather in Amravati is clear, making it the perfect place to teach pilots.

4. India Becomes First Nation To Prepare Full List of Fauna

The Fauna of India Checklist Portal is the first complete list of all the animal types that have been found in India. India is the first country in the world to make a list of all 104,561 species that live in its country. On Sunday, the 109th Foundation Day of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) was held in Kolkata. That day, Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav opened the “Fauna of India Checklist Portal.”

World leader in protecting wildlife

Yadav said, “India is a global champion in biodiversity conservation.” He used the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” program as an example of how committed the country is to protecting the environment. This scheme was one of the first big things that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did after being re-elected. Yadav also talked about other government programs, like the International Big Cat Alliance, that are meant to protect wildlife. He used the successful move of cheetahs to India as an example of how well the country protects wildlife.

5. Viswanathan Anand Wins 10th Leon Masters Chess Championship
