1. A book on Arundhati Bhattacharya “Indomitable: A Working Woman’s Notes on Life, Work and Leadership” released

HarperCollins is set to publish “Indomitable: A Working Woman’s Notes on Life, Work and Leadership” the autobiography of Arundhati Bhattacharya, retired Indian banker and former first-ever woman Chairperson of the State Bank of India.

Indomitable features the story of Arundhati Bhattacharya’s life as a banker and the difficulties she faced in the male-dominated sector.

2. RajKummar Rao named as brand ambassador of RenewBuy

RenewBuy, an online insurance platform, has appointed Rajkummar Rao as the brand ambassador for its 1st 360-degree consumer advertising campaign that highlights consumers’ insurance needs.

The campaign was designed and conceptualised by Havas Worldwide India. “Smart Tech, Right Advice” is the theme of the campaign. This program aims to increase the spread of insurance policies digitally for consumers from any part of the country.

3. Alikhan Smailov appointed as new Prime Minister of Kazakhstan

The parliament of Kazakhstan has unanimously approved the appointment of Alikhan Smailov as the new Prime Minister of the country.

His name was nominated by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on January 11, 2022. Prior to this, the 49-year-old Smailov served as the country’s finance minister from 2018 to 2020. He became the first deputy prime minister in the Cabinet in 2019.

4. Qualification tests of Cryogenic engine for Gaganyaan successful: ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organisation has successfully conducted the qualification test of cryogenic engine for the Gaganyaan Programme. The duration of the test was for 720 seconds at ISRO Propulsion Complex in Tamil Nadu.

According to ISRO, the engine parameters were closely matching with the predictions during the entire duration of the test and the performance of the engine also met the test objectives. The successful long-duration test is a major milestone for the Human Space Programme Gaganyaan.

5. AP Govt Staff Retirement Age increased to 62 Years, Pay Hiked by 23.39 %

Andhra Pradesh State Government has announced increase in the retirement age of the State Government Employees as per the latest update.

The latest order passed by AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Govt has decided to extend the retirement age for AP Govt Staff from the existing 60 years to 62 years.

6. Kumbalangi: First sanitary-napkin-free panchayat

Kumbalangi village in Cochin is all set to become India’s first sanitary-napkin-free panchayat. The village has previously won acclaim as India’s first model tourism village.

This move is a part of ‘Avalkayi’ initiative, which is being implemented in the Ernakulam parliamentary constituency, in association with “Thingal Scheme” of HLL Management Academy’s and Indian Oil Corporation.

7. Rise in Banking Ombudsman complaints

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its “Annual Report of the Ombudsman Schemes for the year 2020-21”, highlighting a rise in Banking Ombudsman complaints.

During April 2020-March 2021, report witnessed a 22.27 per cent increase in number of complaints under various ombudsman schemes.

ATM & debit cards, mobile banking and credit cards accounted for major chunk of the complaints. During this period, volume of complaints stands at 4,04,143. Chandigarh, Kanpur and Delhi received the maximum number of complaints.

8. U.K-India Free-trade deal Talks

UK government announced the launch of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with India. This move is being described as a golden opportunity, of putting British businesses at the front of Indian economy.

FTA is likely to take UK’s historic partnership with India to the next level. With this FTA, sectors like Scotch whisky, financial services and cutting-edge renewable technology are set to benefit.
