1. Indian Army uses GOCO model to improve efficiency

The Indian Army began its work based on the Government Owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) model. The model will identify the potential industry partners for its base workshops and ordnance depots intended to improve operational efficiency.

Army also issued a Request For Information (RFI) to shortlist service providers with experience in warehousing, logistics and supply chain management for Central Ordnance Depot (COD), Kanpur.

2. Two Indian origin women appointed as the judges to criminal and civil courts

Two Indian origin women, Judge Archana Rao and Judge Deepa Ambedkar have been appointed as judges to criminal and civil courts. The judges were appointed by New York mayor Bill de Blasio. Judge Archana Rao is appointed to criminal court of New York and Judge Deepa Ambedkar is appointed to civil court in New York. These appointments were effective from 1 January 2020.

3. The 31st International Kite Festival launched in Ahmedabad

The 31st International Kite Festival was launched at the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The festival will be conducted from 7-14 January in different parts of the state. The festival became an identity of Gujarat. International Kite Festival: ♦ Makarsankranti, the festival of Kites aims attracts a large number of foreign tourists in the state.

4. Centre approves disaster relief fund to seven states

The Government of India approved Rs 5,908 crores of disaster relief fund to seven states. It includes Karnataka, UP, Assam, MP, Tripura Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh. The states were badly affected due to floods and landslides caused by South West Monsoon rains.

5. India continues to be top sourcing market for Sri Lankan tourism

India continued to be the top sourcing market for Sri Lankan tourism with Indian tourists constituting maximum 19 percent of total tourist arrivals to the island nation in 2019.

The latest data released by Sri Lankan tourism revealed that 355,002 Indian tourists visited Sri Lanka last year against total arrival of around 1.91 million.

6. Uber teams up with Hyundai on electric air taxi

US ride-hailing company Uber Technologies Inc and South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor have teamed up to develop electric air taxis, joining the global race to make small self-flying cars to ease urban congestion.

Global players like Germany’s Daimler, China’s Geely Automobile and Japan’s Toyota have all unveiled investments in start-ups that aim to deploy electric flying cars capable of vertical takeoff and landing. But there are big technological and regulatory hurdles to the plans.

7.J&K has registered highest IPD care in the country

Jammu and Kashmir has registered the highest Inpatient Department, IPD care in the country. According to the report released by the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), New Delhi. As per the report, the 96% IPD care in rural areas of J&K is provided by Public Health Facilities. This facility is highest against the country’s average of 85%.

8. ‘Karmayoddha Granth’: A book on the life of PM Narendra Modi launched

Union Home Minister released a book ‘Karmayoddha Granth’ on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A ‘Karmayoddha’ is a man with a beating heart for people, a statesman, a hard taskmaster, an able administrator and an ideal leader who leads by example. All these qualities have been personified by Narendra Modi.

9. NSO projects India’s GDP growth rate for 2019-20 at 5%

National Statistical Office (NSO) projects India’s GDP growth rate for 2019-20 at 5%. The decline has been mainly on account of deceleration in manufacturing sector growth, which is expected to come down to 2 per cent in 2019-20 from 6.2 per cent in the year-ago fiscal.

The deceleration was also witnessed in sectors like agriculture, construction and electricity, gas and water supply.

10. K. Srikkanth & Anjum Chopra to get CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award

Krishnamachari Srikkanth & Anjum Chopra will be conferred with the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. Krishnamachari Srikkanth will be the recipient of 2019’s prestigious CK Nayudu Lifetime Award.

Former India women’s captain Anjum Chopra is the co-recipient of the lifetime achievement award for the year 2019. Srikkanth and Anjum will be conferred with the Lifetime Achievement award by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their contributions to Indian cricket.

11. Indian High Commission organizes “Art Exhibition” in Bangladesh

The Indian High Commission has organized the “Art Exhibition” in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The “Art Exhibition” has been organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The art exhibition constituted unique photographs of Mahatma Gandhi from his initial days in South Africa to numerous movements he participated in India.

12. Leh-Ladakh: Both Boys, Girls teams win 5th IHAI National Ice Hockey Championship 2020

In Leh-Ladakh, the home teams won the 5th Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) National Ice Hockey Championship -2020 in both Boys and Girls categories today. Ladakh Scouts Regiment Centre (LSRC) won the bronze medal, in Under-20 Boys category.
