  1. PNB appoints A K Pradhan as Group Chief Risk Officer

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has appointed its general manager A K Pradhan as the Group Chief Risk Officer. The state-owned lender however did not disclose the functions and responsibilities of the Group Chief Risk Officer.

On February 14, PNB had detected the fraud wherein billionaire jeweller Nirav Modi and associates allegedly cheated the bank by acquiring fraudulent letters of undertaking (LoUs) from one of its branches for overseas credit from other Indian lenders.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has developed a multivendor e-commerce website and mobile app to help fishermen earn better income for their catch without depending on middlemen.

The CMFRI has developed the technology to help fish farmers and fishermen selling their farmed fish and marine catch directly to the customers online.

  1. Uma Bharti launches second Swajal Yojna project in Rajasthan

To ensure availability of clean drinking water to every household, Union Minister Uma Bharti today launched the second project under the ‘Swajal Yojna’ at Bhikampura village in Rajasthan.

Under the scheme, 90 per cent of the project cost will borne by the government and the remaining 10 per cent will be contributed by the community.

  1. Google integrates its mobile payment app with SBI

Global search engine giant Google today integrated its mobile payment app, Tez with the nation’s largest lender State Bank under which its cusomters can create an SBI UPI Id–@oksbi and get access to exclusive SBI offers.

SBI and Google’s will work towards a wider adoption of digital payments and focus on building unique propositions for users and merchants including specially curated offers.

  1. Now link Aadhaar with PF account via UMANG app

Retirement fund body EPFO has launched the facility of linking Aadhaar with universal account number, through UMANG mobile app.

The new facility is in addition to the existing one on the EPFO website. The facility on e-KYC portal has added a new feature to link UAN with Aadhaar online using biometric credentials.

This facility is available at Member Interface of EPFO Unified Portal. Any member with activated and Aadhaar-seeded UAN can avail the facility. It is independent from employer.

UMANG or Unified Mobile Application is an app launched by the government to provide access to various government services at one place.

  1. India ranks 47th on Inclusive Internet Index: Facebook

India is ranked 47th out of 86 countries when it comes to inclusive internet and connectivity for all, a Facebook report.

Facebook, which commissioned the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) to create a comprehensive “Inclusive Internet Index,” found India in the middle of Asian countries (12th out of 23) when it comes to connectivity.

  1. Second India-Korea Business Summit

Second India-Korea Business Summit organized by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in partnership with ChosunILbo, KOTRA, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Invest India, was held in New Delhi.

Aim of the summit is to strengthen the economic relationship, boost trade relations and increase investments between India and Republic of Korea.

  1. India, Nepal to hold joint exercise in Pithoragarh

India and Nepal would hold a joint exercise in Uttarakhand that will include training on jungle warfare, anti-terrorism combat as well as disaster response activities.

The 13th edition of the Nepal-India joint military exercise will be held in Pithoragarh in a couple of months. This is a regular military exercise being organised annually between the two armies, said the defence ministry sources. Last year, the 12th edition of Surya Kiran Military exercise was held in Kathmandu.

  1. Federer bags twin honours in Monaco, becomes most decorated Laureus award winner

Tennis legend Roger Federer became the most decorated winner in the history of Laureus World Sports Awards after he won twin honours, his sixth, which includes the Sportsman and Comeback titles at the 18th edition of the prestigious awards ceremony.

In the Sportsman of the Year category, Federer waved off tough competition from the likes of Rafael Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo to bag the honours.

US Olympic legend and Laureus Academy member Edwin Moses received the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition for his remarkable sporting career in which he won two Olympic gold medals and remained unbeaten for nine years, nine months and nine days in the 400 metres hurdles.

  1. Best-selling British novelist Penny Vincenzi dead at 78

British writer Penny Vincenzi, whose stories of romance, rivalry and family secrets topped best-seller lists, has died. She was 78.

Vincenzi worked as a journalist before publishing her first novel “Old Sins,” in 1989. Her 17 novels and two story collections sold more than 7 million copies worldwide. Her last book, “A Question of Trust,” was published in 2017.
