1. GS Lakshmi has become the first woman match referee to oversee a mens ODI

Former India cricketer GS Lakshmi has become the first woman match referee to oversee a men’s One Day International (ODI). She officiated the opening match of the third series of the World Cup League 2 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

2. Climate Emergency named as Oxford’s Word of the Year 2019

Oxford Dictionaries has named ‘Climate Emergency’ as its 2019 Word of the Year. It has been chosen from an all-environmental shortlist that also included ‘climate denial,’ ‘climate action,’ ‘eco-anxiety,’ ‘flight shame’ and ‘extinction.’ Being chosen as Word of the Year, reflects that ‘Climate Emergency’ was a real preoccupation of the English-speaking world in 2019.

3. 4th India Water Impact Summit held in Delhi

The Union Minister of Jal Shakti inaugurated the fourth water impact summit in New Delhi. In 2019, the summit is to focus on integrated management of water resources in rural and urban areas. At the summit, the experts from various fields discuss the biggest problems associated with water.

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has introduced Artificial Intelligence in classes VIII, IX and X in CBSE schools. The study materials have already been provided to the schools through official CBSE website

5. Former top cop K Vijay Kumar who killed Veerappan appointed to MHA

Former advisor to the Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, K Vijay Kumar, has been appointed as a senior security advisor in the Union Home Ministry headed by Amit Shah, an official order said.

The 1975-batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) will “advise the ministry on security-related matters of Union Territory of JK and Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected States,” the order said.

6. Axis Bank CFO Jairam Sridharan resigns

Axis Bank today said that its group executive and chief financial officer (CFO) Jairam Sridharan has resigned. “He would like to pursue other career opportunities and as such has resigned from the services of the bank,” the bank said in a statement.

Mr Sridharan will continue to serve as the group executive & chief financial officer of the bank under his notice period of three months, Axis Bank added. The private bank said it has initiated a succession plan for finding a replacement.

9. Aberdeen in Andaman adjudged best police station in country

Aberdeen in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been adjudged the best performing police station in the country while dealing with property offence, crime against women and weaker sections, the Home Ministry said on Friday. Balasinor in Mahisagar district of Gujarat has been selected the second best while Ajk Burhanpur in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh the third best police station in the country.

10. NEFT transactions to be made 24×7 from December 16

Bank customers will be able to transfer funds through NEFT around the clock on all days including weekends and holidays from December 16, the Reserve Bank of India announced on Friday.

These transactions after the usual banking hours are set to be automated initiated using ‘Straight Through Processing (STP)’ modes by the banks. The existing discipline for crediting the beneficiary’s account or returning the transaction within 2 hours of settlement to the originating bank will also continue, the central bank said in a press statement.

11. Saudi Aramco announces world’s largest-ever IPO

Saudi oil giant Aramco has announced its initial public offering (IPO) at $25.6 billion, which is the world’s largest ever. The gulf nation’s state oil company made the announcement on December 5, 2019

Saudi Aramco has set a share price that will value its much-awaited IPO at $25.6 billion. The sum announced by the company is the largest ever, as it even surpassed the $25 billion raised by Chinese online retail giant Alibaba in 2014 when it entered Wall Street.

12. South Asian Games 2019: India tops medal tally with 178 medals

South Asian Games 2019: India leads the medal tally at the 13th edition of South Asian Games (SAG) with 178 medals, which includes 89 gold, 62 silver and 27 bronze medals. The host nation Nepal stands second with 123 medals and Sri Lanka at third position with 144 medals.

India has continued its domination in the medal count by a wide margin, as the regional sporting event nears its conclusion. Indian athletes have displayed their best shows by clinching 49 medals comprising 23 golds, 20 silvers and 6 bronze on the 6th day of the games.
