1. Radhakrishnan Nair appointed as the chief coach of athletics by AFI

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) appointed the 62-year-old Radhakrishnan Nair as the full-time coach of athletics. Nair has been serving as the acting chief coach since the resignation of Bahadur Singh in July earlier this year.

2. Myanmar indigenous activist wins ‘Green Nobel Prize’

An indigenous Karen activist who spearheaded establishing a sprawling conservation zone in eastern Myanmar has been awarded the 2020 Goldman Environmental Prize.

Sein Twa, 47, grew up along the Thai-Burmese border and has spent his life navigating the zones of conflict.

3. Father of fiber optics & Sikh activist Narinder Singh Kapany passes away at 94

RENOWNED PHYSICIST, businessman and Sikh activist Narinder Singh Kapany passed away. He was 94.Born in Punjab’s Moga, Kapany, who had been living in the US, was called the ‘father of fiber optics’ and had more than 100 patents in his name.

4. TRS Senior Leader Kamatham Ram Reddy Passes Away At 83

Telangana Rashtra Samithi party’s senior leader Kamatham Ram Reddy passed away at the age of 83. This senior leader of TRS party was suffering from the age-related illness from a few months and passed away at his home today morning.

5. Liquidity Adjustment Facility

Recently, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to extend liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) to Regional Rural Banks (RRB) to make liquidity management more efficient. The LAF was introduced in RBI in 1998 based on the recommendations of Narasimham Committee on Banking Sector Reforms.

It is a monetary policy tool that enables banks to resolve temporary cash shortages through repurchase agreements or repos. It can also make loans to RBI through reverse-repos to raise cash.

6. Bihar migratory bird festival

Bihar is planning its first ever migratory bird festival this year. This is a three-day festival to be organised in Bhagalpur District. It is to be jointly organised by Bhagalpur forest division, Bombay Natural History Society and the local Mandar Nature Club.

The region houses a large number of migratory birds between November and March every year. The festival is intended to check cases of poaching in the region.

7. Mahaparinirvana Divas: December 6

The death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, which falls on December 6, is dubbed as Mahaparinirvana Divas. On this day each year, millions of people throng to Dr Ambedkar’s Samadhi in Mumbai, which is called Chaitya bhoomi to pay respect to the father of Indian Constitution.

This year, due to the on-going pandemic, the Maharashtra government has urged people to refrain from visiting this site and observe the day staying home.
