1. 20th Nagaland Hornbill Festival
The Nagaland Hornbill Festival began at Naga Heritage Village at Kisama in Nagaland on 1 December 2019. The year 2019 celebrates the 20th edition of Hornbill Festival and the festival this year coincides with Nagaland Statehood Day. The much-awaited festival began with a colourful blend of culture and tradition with a modern twist.
2. 2 December: National Pollution Control Day
Every year 2 December is observed as National Pollution Control Day to commemorate the people who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident of Bhopal Gas Tragedy that occurred on this day in 1984.To raise awareness about increasing air pollution and educating people about how to control and manage industrial disasters.
3. 30 November: 10th Indian Organ Donation Day celebrated
The 10th Indian Organ Donation Day was celebrated on 30 November 2019. Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare presided over, Dr. Harsh Vardhan presided over 10th Indian Organ Donation Day at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The celebration was organised by NOTTO (National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization.
4. India and Sweden to sign Polar Science Cooperation Agreement
India and Sweden are to sign their first maritime cooperation agreement during the Swedish Royal couple visit. The agreement includes cooperation between the countries in both Arctic and Antarctic regions and hence the name Polar Science.
5. 2 December: International Day for Abolition of Slavery
Every year 2 December is observed as International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, across the world. The yearly event is organized by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and was first celebrated in 1986.
6. South Asian Games begins in Kathmandu
On December 1, 2019, the President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari opened the South Asian Games in Kathmandu. The event is scheduled to be conducted for 10 days. Around 487 athletes are participating from India.
7. Indigenous Faith Day was celebrated in Tezu
The Indigenous Faith Day (IFD) 2019 was celebrated on 1 December in Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh. The Day aims to preserve the rich culture and identity of the State. The function was presided by Tezu legislator Karikho Kri. The programme was organized by the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) of Tezu.
8. Maharashtra to monitor schemes introduced for the welfare of farmers
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray approved Rs.606 crores to monitor all schemes related to farmers on a regular basis. The new government aims to introduce new approaches to resolve issues related to cultivators, who have suffered crop losses in unseasonal rains in October. The government said that it will provide any negligible assistance and satisfactory provision for farmers.
9. Indo-Sri Lanka joint exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ to strengthen ties
India – Sri Lanka joint training exercise Mitra Shakti 2019 is the seventh edition of the exercise aimed to enhance interoperability and operational efficiency amongst the armies of both India and Sri Lanka when deployed as part of United Nations peacekeeping forces. The opening ceremony for the seventh Indo-Sri Lanka joint exercise Mitra Shakti was conducted, at Aundh military station.
10. 25th U.N. Climate Change Conference Begins In Spain
As alarm bells ring ever louder worldwide over climate change, some 25,000 delegates will meet for the next two weeks in Spain for COP25, the annual United Nations international conference on a global challenge that shows little signs of being resolved.
11. Gurpreet Singh, Sunil Kumar clinch gold medals in Senior National C’ships
In wrestling, Asian Championships silver medallists Gurpreet Singh and Sunil Kumar clinched gold medals on the final day of the senior national championships in Jalandhar.
Gurpreet defeated two-time world junior championships medallist Sajan Bhanwal, who was representing the Railways, by a 3-1 margin, in the 77 kilogram categor. This was Punjab grappler’s fourth senior national title.
12. India becomes first country to make entire Haj process digital
India has become the first country to make the entire process for pilgrims going on Haj completely digital. Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said this after signing the bilateral agreement for next year’s pilgrimage with the Saudi Haj Minister in Jeddah.
Mr Naqvi said, an online application, e-visa, Haj mobile app, ‘e-MASIHA’ health facility, “e-luggage pre-tagging” providing all information in India itself regarding accommodation and transportation in Mecca and Madina will be provided to 2 lakh Indian Muslims going for Haj in 2020.
