  1. President Presents ‘National Awards for Divyangjan Empowerment -2017

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind presented the “National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)-2017” at a function organized by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The National Awards were presented in 14 main categories. Within stipulated date, out of these 14 categories, 984 applications were received from 13 categories. Four Scrutiny Committees constituted by the Department as per the rules had scrutinized the nominations and their recommendations were considered by the National Selection Committee.

  1. D K Sarraf appointed as PNGRB Chairman

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s former Chairman, D K Sarraf, as the new Chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board.

Former Director (Operations), Oil India Ltd, S Rath, has also been appointed as a Member in the board, after replacing K K Jha. Ex-Member, Cyber Appellate Tribunal. S S Chahar too has been appointed as Member (Legal) in the board.

  1. NRAI appoints Rahul Singh as president

National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has appointed Rahul Singh as its new president.

Rahul Singh, founder & CEO, The Beer Cafe, took over as the new President of the National Restaurant Association of India at its managing committee meeting held in New Delhi.

  1. India re-elected as Member of International Maritime Council for two years (2018-19) 

India has been re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization [IMO] under Category “B” at the 30th session of the Assembly of the IMO held in London on 01 December, 2017.

The IMO Council consists of 40 member countries. In Categories “A” and “B” there are 10 members each and in Cateogary “C” 20 members, who are elected by the IMO Assembly.

IMO Council plays a crucial role to play in deciding various important matters within the mandate of the IMO, in relation to the global shipping industry, including its work programme strategy and budget. 

  1. A Surya Prakash Re-Appointed Prasar Bharati Chief

Former journalist and author A. Surya Prakash has been appointed as the chairman of the public broadcaster Prasar Bharati for a second term. Prasar Bharati runs Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Prakash, who has been at the helm of Prasar Bharati for three years since 2014, retired earlier in October.

  1. Centre Increases Agricultural Education Budget by 47.4 Percent

Government of India has started celebrating many National and International Days related to agriculture for its integrated and rapid development. It was stated by Radha Mohan Singh.

The Agriculture Minister said that two years back Government of India decided to celebrate National Agricultural Education Day on December 3 because it is the birthday of our first Union Agriculture Minister and Former President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad Ji.

  1. IIT-Bombay, Canada varsity to use AI to make Pune smart city

Artificial intelligence (AI) will be deployed as part of a collaboration involving the University of Toronto and IIT-Bombay to make Pune a truly smart city.

This will be among the first of the projects to be tackled under a recent memorandum of understanding signed by the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, IIT-Bombay and University of Toronto (UofT).

Four areas have been identified for the long-term partnership — affordable housing, rural immigrants arriving in large numbers in Pune, cyber security and digital systems interoperability.

  1. 03rd December 2107: International Day of Disabled Persons

International day of persons with disabilities is being observed today to promote the rights and welfare of disabled individuals around the globe. The day, marked on 3 December annually, aims to promote empowerment, inclusion and access to reduce inequalities in society.

The day has been observed internationally since 1992 to increase public awareness, acceptance and understanding of people with disability. The Theme this year is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all”.

  1. US Ends Participation in UN’s Global Compact on Migration

The United States has announced that it will not participate in the United Nations’ Global Compact on Migration as it does not meet the policies and principles of the Trump administration.

The US participation in the Compact process began in 2016, following the Obama Administration’s decision to join the UN’s New York Declaration on migration.

The New York Declaration contains numerous provisions that are inconsistent with US immigration and refugee policies and the Trump Administration’s immigration principles.

  1. Corporation Bank launches RuPay Credit Cards

Corporation Bank has launched its RuPay Select and RuPay Platinum credit cards. A press release said here that Corporation Bank’s RuPay credit cards are accepted at all RuPay-enabled 1.5 million plus PoS terminals and 80,000 plus e-commerce merchants in India and all ICS Partner acceptance points (POS, e-commerce merchants) globally.

Jai Kumar Garg, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Corporation Bank, unveiled the cards in Mangaluru. Gopal Murli Bhagat, Executive Director of the bank, was present during the launch.

  1. Iranian President Inaugurates First Phase of Chabahar Port

India said the construction of the Chabahar port in Iran will contribute to regional trade and provide Afghanistan with “alternate access” to global markets, after the inauguration of the first phase of the Shahid Beheshti Port in the Sistan-Baluchestan province by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Nepal will hold an international conference to draw attention on climate change and its adverse effects on people in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari will inaugurate the four-day long conference aimed at developing solutions for a sustainable future for Asia that could withstand the impacts of climate change.

India returned with a solitary bronze medal by Deepika Kumari at the Indoor Archery World Cup Stage 2 that concluded.

Deepika, seeded third, defeated 13th seeded Sayana Tsyrempilova of Russia 7-3 in the women’s recurve bronze play-off to bring some smile to the camp after the men’s top seed Atanu Das crashed out in round two.

  1. Final Draw for 2018 World Cup Held in Moscow

The national football teams from 32 countries found out their fates as the final draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup was held in the Russian capital of Moscow.

The ceremony, which was held at the State Kremlin Palace, included most of the head coaches of the national teams that qualified for next year’s tournament as well as former football stars, who participated in the draw.

Former Meghalaya minister and two time MLA from the Phulbari constituency, Manirul Islam Sarkar died after a heart attack in Guwhati. The 53-year-old.
