1. IIT Indore Develops E-Shoes for Live Location Tracking
IIT Indore has developed high-tech shoes that use a special Tribo-Electric Nanogenerator (TENG) to generate electricity from walking. These shoes also have GPS to track location in real-time. The shoes have been given to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to help improve the safety and efficiency of armed forces personnel. They can also be used in other fields.
Overview of the Technology
The shoes use TENG technology to turn the energy from walking into electricity. This electricity is stored in the sole of the shoe and can power small devices. The shoes also have GPS and RFID for accurate real-time location tracking.
Applications and Benefits
Military: The shoes help soldiers stay safe and coordinated by providing real-time location information and power for important devices.
Sports: They can be used to analyze athletes’ movements, which might help improve performance.
Other Uses: These shoes can also help track the location of seniors with Alzheimer’s, monitor school children, and manage factory worker attendance.
2. Maharashtra Government Approves Logistics Policy 2024
The Maharashtra government has approved the Logistics Policy 2024, which aims to improve the state’s logistics infrastructure and create around 500,000 jobs. The plan includes building over 200 logistics parks, complexes, and truck terminals with modern facilities.
Key Objectives
Infrastructure Development: Set up more than 10,000 acres dedicated to logistics infrastructure.
Logistics Hubs: Develop 25 district logistics nodes, five regional hubs, five state hubs, one national hub, and one international hub.
Technological Integration: Encourage the use of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, robotics, automation, IoT, digitization, drones, and fintech to create technology-focused jobs.
Major Projects
- International Mega Logistics Hub: This will be built in the Navi Mumbai-Pune region on 2,000 acres, connected to the new international airport at Panvel, with a budget of ₹1,500 crore.
- National Mega Logistics Hub: Located in the Nagpur-Wardha area on 1,500 acres, linked to the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, with a budget of ₹1,500 crore.
- State Logistics Hubs: Five hubs, each covering 500 acres, will be set up in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Jalna, Thane-Bhiwandi, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Pune-Purandar, and Palghar-Wadhawan, with a total budget of ₹2,500 crore.
- Regional Logistics Hubs: Five hubs, each covering 300 acres, will be developed in Nanded-Degloor, Amravati-Badnera, Kolhapur-Ichalkaranji, Nashik-Sinnar, and Dhule-Shirpur, with a budget of ₹1,500 crore.
3. Nalganga-Wainganga River linking Cost Up ₹34k cr; Launch In A Year
On August 6, the state cabinet approved the 426.52-km Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project, which will cost an estimated ₹88,575 crore. This project is expected to benefit the BJP in the Vidarbha region in the upcoming assembly elections, as it will irrigate 3.7 lakh hectares of farmland in six districts where many farmers have committed suicide.
Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project Proposal
Western Vidarbha often suffers from a lack of rain, leading to crop failures and financial struggles for farmers, which has resulted in suicides. To address this, the Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project was proposed in 2018 when Devendra Fadnavis, who is from the Vidarbha region, was the chief minister. However, after the government changed in 2019, the project was put on hold. Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis resubmitted the project proposal to the state governor for approval.
4. Fast Tracking BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, suggested that BIMSTEC members should revisit their trade priorities to finalize the long-delayed Free Trade Agreement. He made this statement during his speech at the first-ever BIMSTEC Business Summit, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Reasons for the Delay in the BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement
Shri Goyal mentioned that it’s important to understand why the BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement has been delayed. He urged the members to come up with clear recommendations that all seven countries can agree on. He also suggested that the Trade Negotiating Committee and the business community consider starting with a preferential trade agreement to boost regional trade and investment and improve regional competitiveness.
5. Indian Wrestler Aman Sehrawat Secures Bronze at Paris 2024 Olympics
In an exciting match at the Champ de Mars arena, India’s Aman Sehrawat won a bronze medal in the men’s 57kg wrestling category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The young wrestler showed great skill and determination, defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz with a solid 13-5 victory on Friday.
