1. Rajiv Kumar appointed as chairperson of Public Enterprises Selection Board

Former finance secretary Rajiv Kumar was appointed as the chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on 29 April. The appointment of Rajiv Kumar is approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will serve as the PESB chairperson for a period of three years.

2. Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan passed away

One of Bollywood’s most beloved stars Irrfan Khan passed away on 29 April 2020. He died at the age of 53. He died due to neuroendocrine tumour, a type of cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease in March 2018. Khan went to the United Kingdom for treatment and had returned to India in 2019.

3. Former Footballer Michael Robinson passed away

The former Brighton and Liverpool striker Michael Robinson passed away on 28 April. He was 61-years-old. He was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2018.

Robinson helped Liverpool squad to win the league title, European Cup and League Cup with the Reds in 1983-84. He also played for Preston, Manchester City, Brighton, and Queens Park Rangers club.

4. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw recognised among world s top 20 inspirational leaders in Biopharma

Biocon Ltd announced that The Medicine Maker Power List 2020 has ranked its Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw as one of the world’s top 20 inspirational leaders in the field of biopharmaceuticals. She has been recognised for her contribution to the world of medicine as an entrepreneur and innovative business leader, the Bengaluru-headquartered biopharmaceuticals company said in a statement.

5. Foreign minister S Jaishankar to attend BRICS meet on Covid-19

India will participate in a key meeting of the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) foreign ministers to discuss the fallout of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Sars-Cov-2, which first emerged in China’s Wuhan city late last year, has killed more than 200,000 people worldwide and infected over 3 million others, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

6. Axis Bank to acquire 29% stake in Max Life Insurance

Private sector lender Axis Bank on April 28 said it will acquire 29 percent stake in Max Life Insurance. With this acquisition, the total stake of Axis Bank in Max Life will be at 30 percent.

Max Financial Services currently holds a 72.5 percent stake in Max Life and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (MSI) owns 25.5 percent stake.

7. International Dance Day is observed on April 29

Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO, created International Dance Day in 1982.

According to International Dance Day’s website, this day “acts as a wake-up-call for governments, politicians and institutions which have not yet recognised its value to the people and to the individual and have not yet realised its potential for economic growth.”

8. Spain pays tribute to Michael Robinson, hero of football commentary

Robinson, who settled in Spain after his playing career and had an award-winning media career, succumbed to cancer that was first diagnosed in 2018. He passed away at his home in Marbella.

“With tremendous sadness we inform you of Michael’s death,” his family announced on Twitter.

9. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announces Rs 15 lakh ex-gratia for journalists

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced compensate assistance of Rs 15 lakh for the family members of working journalists who lose their lives due to COVID-19 infection in the state.

Large scale of health problems have been emerged across the world due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In such difficult times, the journalist are delicately discharging their duty and creating awareness among the people about the deadly virus, said a statement issued by the CM.

10. Haryana Education Minister launches ‘Sampark Baithak’ app for primary students

After launching the application here, the Haryana education minister, Kanwar Pal, said the curriculum of Class 5 has been made simple and interesting through cartoons and films. He said that this app will prove beneficial, especially for the students of Hindi medium schools.
