1. International Girls in ICT day is observed on 23 April

International Girls in information and communication technologies (ICT) Day is observed on the fourth Thursday of the month of April. The day is observed on 23rd April in the year 2020.

The day aims to encourage the girls to consider a future in the technology sector. More than 111,000 girls and young women have taken part in more than 3,500 events held in 140 countries, related to technology, around the world.

2. Adam Higginbotham won William E. Colby Award

The award is named for the late CIA director William E. Colby. In 1999, the Colby Award was established. Previous winners of the award include Karl Marlantes’ novel Matterhorn and Dexter Filkins’ The Forever War.

The award is given for an excellent book. The book about the history of military or intelligence.

3. PV sindhu named ambassador for BWF’s ‘i am badminton’ campaign

Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced PV Sindhu as one of the ambassadors for its ‘I am badminton’ awareness campaign. The announcement was made on April 22, 2020.

The campaign will provide a platform for players to express their love and respect for the game by promoting clean and honest play.

4. Government reconstitutes National Shipping Board, Malini Shankar appointed as new head

The Union Government has reconstituted the National Shipping Board (NSB), which is the highest advisory body on matters related to Indian shipping. The board will now be headed by former Director General of Shipping Malini Shankar.

The Ministry of Shipping announced that the 16-member National Shipping Board has been reconstituted. The National Shipping Board advises on matters including the development thereof and other matters arising out of the Merchant Shipping Act.

5. TCS to power Israel’s first fully digital bank

India’s largest software services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCSNSE 6.15 %) will launch Israel’s first fully digital bank in what is being seen as a trans-formative initiative that can impact the business model of other sectors as well.

TCS was selected by Israel’s Ministry of Finance to transform its banking sector by building a banking service bureau that would serve as a shared, plug-and-play, digital banking operations platform – powered by the TCS BaNCS Global Banking Platform ..

6. SBI now holds 48.21% in Yes Bank; HDFC, ICICI Bank 7.97% each

After emerging as the white knight for beleaguered private lender Yes Bank, State Bank of India (SBI) now holds 48.21 percent stake in the private lender, followed by HDFC and ICICI Bank, which have 7.97 percent each, shows the latest shareholding pattern.

Axis Bank holds 4.78 percent stake, followed by Kotak Mahindra Bank (3.61 percent) and Bandhan Bank (2.39 percent). Federal Bank and IDFC First hold 1.92 percent and 1.67 percent each. Life Insurance Corporation of India holds 1.64 percent in the bank, the exchange data showed.

8. Huawei Telecommunications India appoints David Li as CEO; replaces Jay Chen

Huawei Telecommunications India said it has appointed David Li as its chief executive officer.He replaces Jay Chen who has been promoted to handle Asia Pacific level business role.

Li joined Huawei in 2002 and has experience of working in the India market, including in roles like vice president sales and vice president HR during different phases of his career. He was serving as CEO of Huawei Cambodia before returning to India to take on his new role.

9. Federal Bank to buy additional 4% stake in life insurance JV from IDBI Bank

Private lender Federal Bank will buy additional 4 per cent stake in IDBI Federal Life Insurance Co Ltd (IFLIC) from the IDBI Bank, increasing the total shareholding in the life insurance joint venture to 30 per cent. In a filing to exchanges, the Kochi-headquartered bank said its board has approved a proposal to purchase additional stake of up to 4 per cent in the equity capital of IDBI Federal Life Insurance from IDBI Bank.

10. Justice Biswanath Somadder new chief justice of Meghalaya High Court

Allahabad HC judge Justice Biswanath Somadder for appointment to the post of the chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice Sharad A Bobde, has recommended the name of Justice Somadder as the new chief justice of Meghalaya High Court.
