3. International Mother Earth Day 2024 is observed on April 22

On April 22, the 54th International Mother Earth Day, people all over the world will come together to honor Mother Earth.

This event happens every year and is a powerful reminder of how important it is to deal with the growing environmental problems that are threatening our world, such as pollution, climate change, and the loss of forests.

How Earth Day Came to Be

Earth Day was first thought of by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin in 1970, who suggested a national teach-in to bring attention to the damage being done to the environment.

Nelson was moved by the large-scale student protests against the Vietnam War and wanted to use that energy to start a movement to deal with the growing environmental problem.

Nelson’s idea caught on thanks to a young organizer named Denis Hayes and a Republican Congressman named Pete McCloskey.

On April 22, 1970, 20 million people across the country took part in events that started the modern environmental movement.
