Vipul takes charge as new Consul General of Dubai
- Diplomat Vipul, a 1998 batch Indian Foreign Service officer took up the charge as the new Consul General of Dubai.
- Vipul has succeeded Anurag Bhushan. Before joining the Consulate at Dubai, he was working in the office of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. He had earlier served at India’s diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka and Egypt.
- Dubai is recognized as the commercial capital and tourism center of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Crown Prince of the UAE Sheikh Zayed visited New Delhi as the Chief Guest during the recently concluded Republic Day (26th January 2017) ceremony.
- Rajiv Kumar Chander appointed as India’s Ambassador and permanent representative to the UN
Rajiv Kumar Chander has been appointed as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Offices in Geneva. Chander belongs to the Indian Foreign Services batch of 1983. He is currently the consul general of India in Vancouver since August 2015. He has degrees in History and Law. He was the deputy permanent representative with the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, Geneva, between 2006 and 2009.
- PM Modi inaugurates India’s longest road tunnel in J&K
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated India’s longest tunnel Chenani-Nashri, on the Jammu-Srinagar highway amid high security. The tunnel is expected to give sigh of relief to travellers on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, as it will reduce the travel time on National Highway 44 between Jammu and Srinagar by about 2 hours by shortening the distance between the cities by 31 km.
- IISc ranked best educational institution by HRD Ministry
Delhi’s Miranda House and Bengaluru’s Indian Institute of Science are India’s best college and university, a countrywide government ranking of educational institutions said. Loyola College in Chennai and Shri Ram College were the second and third-best colleges in India, said the survey of “general degree” colleges by the human resource development ministry. . This is the first time colleges have been ranked.
- Madhya Pradesh CM launches ‘MP e-nagarpalika’ app
- The Madhya Pradesh government has launched an app named ‘MP e-nagarpalika’ to provide various municipal services online.
- The mobile app was launched by state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This app would offer 378 services like online payment of property tax, seeking building permission, birth/ marriage/death certificates etc. It will also register complaints related to garbage, water, streetlights etc.
- Online payment gateway would be available on this app. This mobile app would encourage the cashless transaction. This mobile app is a part of Rs 225-crore ‘e-nagarpalika’ project, under which all municipal services would be made available online on a unified web platform.
- Union Textiles Minister launches PowerTex India Scheme
The Government has launched PowerTex India, a comprehensive scheme for powerloom sector development, simultaneously at over 45 locations in the country. Launching the scheme in Bhiwandi, Thane district, Maharashtra, the Union Textiles Minister, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani said that Bhiwandi will be known for resurgence in Powerloom sector. Recalling that the powerloom sector alone employs over 44 lakh people, the Minister said that the scheme will especially benefit small powerloom weavers.

- The World Autism Awareness Day 2017 has been observed across the world on 02 April 2017. The 2017 theme for the day is “Toward Autonomy and Self-Determination”.
- World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day, encouraging the Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about children with autism throughout the world.
- Autism is a lifelong neurological condition that manifests during early childhood, irrespective of gender, race or socio-economic status. The term Autism Spectrum refers to a range of characteristics.
- Appropriate support, accommodation, and acceptance of this neurological variation allow those on the Spectrum to enjoy equal opportunity and full and effective participation in society.
- Japan officially recognises Bitcoin as currency
Bitcoin has finally gained the recognition of a mainstream currency along the lines of other fiat currencies. The privilege follows the implementation of a new law in Japan which categorizes Bitcoin as a legal payment option within the country. The much-awaited law went into effect on April 1, 2017. The recognition of cryptocurrency as a legal tender also means the applicability of regulations governing banks and financial institutions to cryptocurrency exchange platforms.
- Russia to build 1st-ever civilian nuclear-powered submarine
Russia has a project for a nuclear-propelled submarine, which would carry seismological equipment instead of missiles. The vessel would be used to explore the Arctic’s mineral riches. The project of the first-ever nuclear sub for civilian use was revealed by Viktor Litvinenko, head of a project group at the Advanced Research Fund, a state agency with close ties to the military.
- Germany ‘1st NATO member’ to launch cyber command
Germany is the first NATO state to launch a “self-contained” cyber command unit designed to shield IT and weapons systems from growing attacks. The Bundeswehr’s Cyber and Information Space (CIR) boasts a status equal to that of the army, navy, and air force. On April 1, alongside the classic forces of the Army, Navy and Air Force, the new Cyber and Information Space (CIR) command will be created.
11. Sindhu beats Olympic champ Marin to clinch India Open title
PV Sindhu avenged her defeat in the Rio Olympics gold medal clash in spectacular fashion, winning a battle of nerves against Spanish Olympic champion, Carolina Marin, in the final of the Yonex India Open World Superseries. The world number five Indian shuttler took 46 minutes to clinch the final by 21-19, 21-16. Notably, this was Sindhu’s 4th win against the 23-year-old Spaniard in nine attempts.
12. Jepkosgei smashes three world records at Prague Half Marathon
Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya broke three world records in winning the Prague Half Marathon . The Kenyan set a new half marathon world record — as well as registering the quickest times for the 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre marks — in just her fifth half marathon.
13. Roger Federer wins Miami Open 2017
Roger Federer clinched his 91st career title when he beat rival Rafa Nadal 6-3 6-4 in the Miami Open final. Federer, now a three-time Miami winner. The 35-year-old Swiss, showing no sign of losing his edge, improved to 19-1 this year, winning the Australian Open in five sets over Nadal, and BNP Paribas Open in straight sets over fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka. His only loss was at the hands of Russian Evgeny Donskoy in the second round in Dubai.
