1. N Chandrababu Naidu selected for US India Business Council Award

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been selected for the US India Business Council Award. The USIBC has selected Mr. Naidu for the award of ‘Transformative Chief Minister’ and he would be receiving the award at the second annual West Coast Summit to be held in Menlo Park, California on May 8.He has been requested to deliver his message on the occasion and a message towards award function has been received by the CMO.

The government has launched two mobile apps, echallan and mParivahan, that provide access to various services and information, and enable citizens to report any traffic violation or road accident. Government has launched two new mobile apps – eChallan and mParivahan – related to road safety and customer facilitation.

  1. Kanha tiger reserve becomes first in India get official mascot

Kanha has become the first tiger reserve in India to officially introduce a mascot — Bhoorsingh the Barasingha — to present the hard ground swamp deer as the spirit of the reserve and spread awareness to save it from possible extinction. Barasingha, or swamp deer, is the state animal of Madhya Pradesh. The Kanha tiger reserve, spread over Mandla and Balaghat districts, is the only place in the world where the species exists.

  1. 81st Foundation day ‘Utkal Divas’ celebrated by Odisha

Odia communities across the country and abroad celebrated Utkal Divas to mark the formation of Odisha state on linguistic basis in 1936.  The foundation day of Odisha is celebrated across the state on April 1 every year after it was carved out of the combined Bengal-Bihar-Orissa province in 1936. While the state government and different organisations held several programmes, the capital city wore a glittering look with regional fervour.

  1. Dharmendra Pradhan launches BS-IV grade fuels nationwide

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has launched a supply of BS-IV grade fuel in 12 towns through video-conferencing from BHUBANESWAR. A new era of clean transportation fuels that would benefit 1.25 billion citizens of our country by substantially reducing pollution levels in cities.

The Supreme Court has banned the sale of BS-III vehicles from April 1. On and from April 1, 2017, such vehicles that are not BS-IV compliant shall not be sold in India by any manufacturer or dealer, that is to say that such vehicles, whether two-wheeler, three- wheeler, four-wheeler or commercial vehicles will not be sold,a Bench of Justices Madan B. Lokur and Deepak Gupta had ordered.

  1. Haryana to provide ₹21,000 to families for third girl child

Haryana government will provide one-time grant of Rs 21,000 to all those families whose third girl child was born after August 24, 2015, under the Aapki Beti, Hamari Beti scheme. The eligible families will receive the amount irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, income and number of sons. The scheme is aimed to combat the problem of declining child sex ratio and promote girls’ education in the state.

  1. Smart India Hackathon 2017 starts in Mumbai

India during the ‘Grand Finale’ of ‘Smart India Hackathon 2017’ April 1-2, the Union human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar.  Real-time monitoring of teachers’ attendance and GPS mapping of schools in rural areas could soon be a reality. About 10,000 engineering and management students from across the country would produce digital solutions for these problems in the form of mobile/computer applications and software programmes.

  1. UN bodies to train female peacekeepers in Delhi

The Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) in India and the UN Women will together organise a two-week training programme for female peacekeepers here from April 3 to 14. The Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) in India, in partnership with the UN Women is organising two-week training at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. India is one of the leading countries to host specialised UN peacekeeping courses on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) at the CUNPK.

  1. India, Malaysia sign 7 agreements

India and Malaysia have signed seven agreements, including in the areas of civil aviation and human resources development, following delegation-level bilateral talks headed by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Najib Razak.  A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on cooperation in the proposed development of an urea and ammonia manufacturing plant in Malaysia and offtake of existing surplus urea from Malaysia to India.

The Reserve Bank of India is the central bank of the country. The Reserve Bank of India was set up on the basis of the recommendations of the Hilton Young Commission. The Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 (II of 1934) provides the statutory basis for the functioning of the Bank, which commenced operations on April 1, 1935.  After the partition of India, the Reserve Bank served as the central bank of Pakistan upto June 1948 when the State Bank of Pakistan commenced operations. The Bank, which was originally set up as a shareholder’s bank, was nationalized in 1949.

  1. Five associate banks, Bharatiya Mahila Bank merge with SBI

Five associates and the Bharatiya Mahila Bank became part of the State Bank of India (SBI) catapulting the country’s largest lender to among the top 50 banks in the world.State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ), State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), State Bank of Mysore (SBM), State Bank of Patiala (SBP) and State Bank of Travancore (SBT), besides Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB), merged with SBI with effect from 1 April.

  1. Axis Bank ties up with Wells Fargo for US remittances

Axis Bank has tied up with Wells Fargo (the third largest American bank by assets) to offer real-time remittances from the Indian diaspora to their relatives back home. Under the arrangement between the two banks, any member of the Indian diaspora with an account with the Wells Fargo will be able to transfer money to their relatives back home and there will be no transaction fee applicable to the money transfers from the USA. But the relative or the beneficiary in India will need to have an account with Axis Bank.

  1. Harmanpreet Kaur named Aus T20 team’s Player of the Year

Harmanpreet Kaur is all set to create history. She is set to become the first Indian cricketer to feature in a foreign Twenty20 cricket tournament after she was named in the 13-member squad for the Sydney Thunder franchise in the Women’s Big Bash League.
