1. Rajasthan’s Priyan Sain Crowned Miss Earth India 2023

Meet the new Miss Earth India 2023, Priyan Sain clinched the title of Miss Earth India 2023 during the Miss Divine Beauty 2023 national final held on August 26 in New Delhi.

The 20-year-old student, dancer, and taekwondo player from Jaipur, Rajasthan succeeds last year’s winner Vanshika Parmar, and will now prepare to represent India at the Miss Earth 2023 pageant in Vietnam this December.

She received her crown from reigning Miss Earth from Korea Mina Sue Choi who was invited as a special guest along with Miss Earth Air from Australia Sheridan Mortlock.

At the same event, Praveena Aanjna was named Miss International India 2023 while Pema Choden Bhutia and Tejaswini Shrivastava were both announced as runners-up.

Prior to becoming a finalist for Miss Divine Beauty and eventually winning her national title, Priyan participated in Miss Rajasthan 2022 where she finished as first runner-up.

2. India and New Zealand sign MoU to boost cooperation in Civil Aviation

The Government of India and the Government of New Zealand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in civil aviation. This will cover the scheduling of new routes, code share services, traffic rights and capacity entitlement.

The MoU was signed by Shri Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and HE Mr David Pine, the New Zealand High Commissioner in the presence of Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister for Civil Aviation of India and Mr Damien O’ Connor, Minister for Trade and Export Growth, Minister of Agriculture, Minister for Biosecurity, Minister for Land Information, and Minister for Rural Communities of New Zealand.

3. FIFA lifts ban on Sri Lanka Football Federation

World governing body FIFA has lifted the ban on the Sri Lanka Football Federation (FFSL). The ban was imposed in January 2023 due to government interference in the federation’s affairs.

In a letter dated August 28 by Fatma Samoura, the FIFA secretary General, it said that the FIFA bureau had decided on 27 August “to lift the suspension of the FFSL with immediate effect”. The FFSL has also agreed to hold fresh elections for its executive committee.

The lifting of the ban is a major boost for Sri Lankan football. It means that the country’s national team will be able to resume international competition and that the FFSL will be able to resume its development programs.

The FIFA Bureau’s decision to lift the ban was welcomed by the Sri Lankan government and by the football community in the country. The government said that it was committed to supporting the development of football in Sri Lanka.

4. Shivraj Singh & Anurag Thakur releases books based on speeches of PM Modi

In a significant event held at the Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Centre in Bhopal, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj S. Chauhan, unveiled books on the speeches of PM Narendra Modi titled “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” which focus on Prime Minister Modi’s inspiring speeches, emphasizing unity, development and trust.

5. National Sports Day 2023 is observed on Aug 29

6. UAE’s Ministry of Health Launches Back-to-School Health Awareness Campaign

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has initiated a back-to-school health awareness campaign spanning from August 17 to 31.

The campaign aims to educate parents and students about the significance of adopting healthy lifestyles as they return to school.

It emphasizes the benefits of physical activity, balanced diets, regulated sleep patterns, and controlled screen time.

Community events were organized in collaboration with the Ministry’s representative offices across the UAE, featuring healthy cooking workshops, expert chef-guided sessions, nutritionist tips, and discussions on health-conscious practices.

The campaign aligns with MoHAP’s strategy to manage community health, uplift quality of life, and promote public health. It also focuses on raising awareness about seasonal influenza and respiratory diseases through preventive measures and vaccination drives.
