1. India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2022- Winners Announced

Smart Cities Mission launched on 25 June 2015, is aimed at providing core infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment and a decent quality of life to their citizens through the application of ‘smart solutions’.

It is a transformational mission aimed to bring about a paradigm shift in the practice of urban development in the country. Of the total proposed projects under SCM, 6,041(76%) projects worth ₹1,10,635 crore have been completed and the remaining 1,894 projects worth ₹60,095 crore will be completed by 30 June 2024.

3. PS Sreedharan Pillai Released Three New Books on Nature, Trees, and Geopolitics

Goa governor PS Sreedharan Pillai released three books at a function held at the Raj Bhavan. His recently authored three new books namely ‘Heritage Trees of Goa’, ‘When Parallel Lines Meet’, and ‘Ente Priya Kavithakal‘ (‘My Dear Poems’ a collection of poems).

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the event in Panaji, Goa. West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose unveiled the book ‘Heritage Trees of Goa’, while Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the event.

Goa state minister for tourism Rohan Khaunte and Jnanpith winner Damodar Mauzo released two other books: ‘When Parallel Lines Meet’ and ‘Ente Priya Kavitakal’.

4. HDFC Bank Launches India’s First Co-Branded Hotel Credit Card With Marriott

In a groundbreaking collaboration, HDFC Bank, India’s leading private sector bank, has partnered with Marriott Bonvoy, the acclaimed travel program by Marriott International, to unveil the ‘Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card‘.

This pioneering co-branded hotel credit card, the first of its kind in India, operates on the esteemed Diners Club platform, a part of the Discover Global Network, and aspires to set new standards for rewarding travel cards in the country.

5. PM Modi conferred with Greece’s Grand Cross of the Order of Honour

Demonstrating the growing relationship between India and Greece, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with ‘The Grand Cross of the Order of Honour’ by President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Friday (August 25).

Earlier in the day, PM Modi also held talks with Greece’s President to strengthen bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Modi is on a daylong visit to the country, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

As informed by MEA, both countries will look to expand and diversify the trade and investment segment of cooperation and deepen the defence and security partnership, infrastructure cooperation, and shipbuilding industry, among others.

7. Amrit Mathur’s autobiography ‘Pitchside: My Life in Indian Cricket’

A book titled ‘Pitchside: My Life in Indian Cricket’ by long-term cricket administrator Amrit Mathur. In the book, Mr. Mathur brings alive insightful first-person accounts of some of Indian Cricket’s most memorable moments.

Anecdotes, events, and matches are described from the perspective of an insider who has seen the game and the players up close for over three decades. An experienced cricket administrator, Mr. Mathur was the manager of the India team on the historic tour of South Africa in 1992.

Later, he was part of PILCOM, the organizing committee for the 1996 Cricket World Cup, also Chief Operating Officer of the Delhi Daredevils and General Manager of BCCI.

8. Veteran Marathi actress Seema Deo passes away at 81

Veteran actor Seema Deo, remembered for her roles in Anand and Kora Kagaz, passes in Mumbai due to age-related ailments, she was 81.

Seema Deo acted in nearly 90 Hindi and Marathi movies in a career spanning over six decades from the black-and-white to the color era of the Indian film industry.

She is hugely remembered for her major role in the musical blockbuster ‘Anand’, along with her husband Ramesh, and Amitabh Bachchan among other actors.

Some of her renowned Marathi films are ‘Jagachya Pathivar’, ‘And Vardakshina’, among many others. She was last seen in ‘Jivan Sandhya’ released in 2021.

9. Reliance Retail Launches ‘Yousta’ Fashion Stores; First Outlet In Hyderabad

Reliance Retail, the retail arm of billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd, has taken a significant step in the fashion retail sector with the introduction of its new brand, Yousta.

10. Aditya-L1 Mission to be Launched in September

Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chief S Somanath announced that Aditya-L1 mission, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun will be likely launched by the first week of September.

This announcement comes hours after ISRO’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 made a successful landing on the lunar surface.

Aditya L1 will be ISRO’s 2 space-based astronomy mission after AstroSat, which was launched in 2015. Aditya 1 was renamed as Aditya-L1. The Aditya 1 was meant to observe only the solar corona.
