1. India Startup Festival 2023 begins in Bengaluru, hosting over 10,000 global startups

The theme of ISF 2023 is ‘Innovation at the Bottom of the Pyramid’, which will feature discussions on vital areas such as Rural Healthcare Education, Fintech, Rural Innovation, Agritech, and food tech.

The event will host more than 10,000 startups from India, the UK, and Japan, and about 500 investors are also expected to be present. Policymakers from across the country and around the world will address grassroots level issues and provide effective solutions.

It will present a chance for startup founders to establish connections with other entrepreneurs and investors.

2. Quad countries to conduct first Malabar naval exercise off Australia

India, Japan, the US, and Australia prepare to begin the first Malabar naval exercise off Australia.

The exercise will take place between August 11 and 22 and will witness the participation of the Quad navies (India, Australia, Japan, USA) in the mega-international event.

The 10-day exercise aims to deepen coordination between the countries amid China’s continuing aggressive moves in the Indo-Pacific.

During the press conference, Vice Admiral Karl Thomas, Commander of the U.S. Navy’s Seventh Fleet, said the deterrence that our four nations provide as we operate together as a Quad is a foundation for all the other nations operating in this region.

4. SBI Life’s Appointment of Amit Jhingran as MD & CEO Receives IRDAI Approval

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) approved the appointment of Amit Jhingran as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for SBI Life Insurance Company Limited.

Amit Jhingran has over three decades of experience in the insurance sector and serves as the Assistant General Manager of the Hyderabad Circle.

He joined the company in 1991 as a probationary officer and has been with SBI Life since then. Amit Jhingran also held the post of CEO of SBI, Chicago.

5. Airtel Payments Bank Launched India’s 1st Eco-Friendly Debit Card

India’s first payment bank, Airtel Payment Bank also became the first Indian Bank to launch an eco-friendly debit card for its new and existing customers with a savings bank account.

The debit cards will be crafted from recycled- Poly Vinyl Chloride (r-PVC) material, a certified eco-friendly material, against normal PVC cards.

The introduction coincides with the Bank’s dedication to sustainability and its drive to advocate for environmentally conscious practices within the financial industry.

7. World Biofuel Day 2023 Observed Globally On 10 August

World Biofuel Day is observed every year on 10th August to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels and to highlight the various efforts made by the Government in the biofuel sector.
