1. NASA appoints Four Astronauts for Second Artemis Program, Lunar Expedition to Begin by 2024

NASA released 4 names who will be sent for Artemis II Program. These astronauts will be heading towards Lunar Expedition by next year. The crew members include Jeremy Hansen, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Hammock Koch respectively.

What is Artemis II Program?

NASA’s Artemis II Program is the second space exploration mission to be scheduled for the year 2024. Also, it is the first crewed mission aligned with the space agency NASA’s aim to set up a long-term presence on the Earth’s natural satellite called Moon.

2. Bank of Maharashtra inaugurated its first dedicated Branch for Start-ups in Pune

State-owned Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) has opened its first dedicated branch for startups in Pune, Maharashtra. The dedicated branch will provide all kinds of support to a startup during its growth journey.

Asheesh Pandey, Executive Director, Bank of Maharashtra, was present in the inaugural ceremony. Sadashiv Survase, Joint Director, Industries, Govt. of Maharashtra, Sajit Kumar, Senior VP SIDBI venture capital, General Managers of the bank, entrepreneurs from start-ups along with customers were present at the event.

3. International Day for Mine Awareness 2023 observed on 4th April

Every year on April 4, the world observes the International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, with the aim of creating awareness about the dangers of explosive mines and generating support for efforts aimed at eliminating them. The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) leads the mine action community, which plays a crucial role in achieving the goals of mine action.

4. Closest Black Hole to Earth Discovered in Our Cosmic Backyard

Scientists have made a noteworthy discovery in astronomy by identifying the nearest black hole to our planet, which is located nearby in space. This remarkable discovery presents new prospects for studying these mysterious entities and comprehending their impact on the structure of the cosmos.

Discovery of the black hole BH1:

Astronomers have utilized the Gaia satellite of the European Space Agency to detect a black hole called BH1. The black hole has been located within a distance of only 1,000 light-years from Earth, which is the closest proximity that any black hole has ever been found. The Gaia satellite has been created to accurately measure the movements and positions of stars present in the Milky Way galaxy.

5. INDIA –SRILANKA ANNUAL BILATERAL MARITIME EXERCISE (SLINEX-23)

The 10th edition of IN-SLN bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX-23 is scheduled at Colombo from 03 – 08 April 2023. The exercise is being conducted in two phases: the Harbour Phase from 03-05 April 2023, followed by a Sea Phase from 06-08 April 2023.

Indian Navy is being represented by INS Kiltan, an indigenous Kamorta class ASW corvette and INS Savitri, an Offshore Patrol Vessel. The Sri Lanka Navy is being represented by SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Sagara.

6. US and Indian Air Force to engage in ‘Cope India’ fighter training exercise

Next week, India’s Sukhoi-30s, which are made in Russia, will participate in an exercise named ‘Cope India’ that involves dog fighting with American F-15 Strike Eagle fighter jets. The exercise was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is taking place after a four-year gap.

About the Cope India

Cope India is a series of wargames that originated in 2004 as a fighter training exercise held at Gwalior air station. Over the years, the exercise has expanded to include a variety of training activities, including subject matter expert exchanges, air mobility training, airdrop training, and large-force exercises, in addition to fighter-training exercises. The previous edition of the exercise was held in 2019.

7. Indian men, women bag 4th Asian Kho Kho titles

India emerged as the winners in both men’s and women’s categories at the 4th Asian Kho Kho Championships held in Tamulpur, located in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of north-central Assam’s Baksa district.

In the finals, the Indian men’s team beat Nepal by a margin of 6 points and an inning, while the Indian women’s team outscored their Nepalese opponents by 33 points and an inning.
