Coal India Limited is going to set up five cancer detection centres in the mining belts of five states ie Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. The announcement has been made by power and coal minister Piyush Goyal. These centers will benefit the people who are staying in remote areas and facing lot of troubles to get access to quality treatment for critical ailments like cancer.
The Minister has inaugurated ‘Premashraya’ in Kolkata, a home for cancer patients and their relatives, set up by Tata Medical Center at Rajarhat, Newtown. The 10-storey building will enable 525 cancer patients and their relatives from outside Kolkata getting treatment at Tata Medical Centre to stay there at a nominal charge.
The minister asked the Premashraya Trust to involve industrialists, business community and others for the maintenance of the ‘home’ which requires at least Rs 30 crore a year. Coal India, the Maharatna PSU of the coal ministry, has already sanctioned Rs 41.11 crore for the construction of Premashraya.
