Choudhry Harpal Singh – Former BKU general secretary passes away

Former general secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), Choudhry Harpal Singh, passed away at his native village of Sadruddin Nagar in the district. He was 80 and suffering from cancer. Singh was close to farmers’ leader the late Mahendra Singh Tikait and participated in the BKU-led agitations at Meerut in 1988 and in Bhopa in 1989.

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) is an Indian farmers’ representative organisation affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
It is one of the well-known Sangh Parivar organization.
For the first time Bhartiya Kisan Sangh was formed in Madhya Pradesh in 1978 and began its activities after getting the organisation duly registered.
On March 2005, the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh urged the Government of India to set up a 20-billion fund for the development of agriculture infrastructure in the nation.
On 13 September 2013 Bhartiya Kisan Sangh organised a rally at Ramlila Maidan at New Delhi which was attended by about 150,000 farmers across the country.
