China’s former security chief Zhou Yongkang is jailed for life

A Chinese court sentenced former state security, Zhou Yongkang to life in prison for corruption and other crimes, consequent of g a Communist Party pledge to prosecute high-level malfeasance and using a secret process that sidestepped risky political outcomes.

Mr. Zhou  was one of China’s most senior politicians three years ago,  will spend the his remaining life in jail for bribery, abuse of power and the intentional disclosure of state secrets. The court explained that Mr. Zhou took more than $118,000 in bribes himself, while his actions helped enrich associates from the oil industry and members of his family, including a wife and son who accumulated assets topping $300 million. Mr. Zhou potentially faced death for his economic crimes.
