China launches newly-developed smaller version Long March-6 carrier rocket

China  launched a new, smaller type of rocket from its “Long March” family on 20th September 2015. The Long March-6 is a carrier rocket which uses liquid propellant. It took off from a launch base in the northern province of Shanxi. China believe that the new model will also significantly improve their ability to access space.  smaller rocket will make China more competitive in the lucrative market for commercial satellite launches.

  • High: 29.3 metres (97 feet)
  • Abbreviation: LM-6
  • Developed:  It was developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation
  • Eco-friendly: Long March-6 uses fuel composed of liquid oxygen and kerosene, which is said to be free of toxicity and pollution.
  • Engine: It is powered by a YF-100 engine.
  • Diameter: 3.35 m (11.0 ft)
  • Name: China’s “Long March” rocket family is named after an epic journey by Communist forces escaping the then ruling Kuomintang in the 1930s.
  • Use:
    •  It will be used for “experiments” in technology and new products.
    •  Long March-6 would be capable of placing a tonne of payload into orbit at a height of 700 kilometres (434 miles).
