Centre has approved Rs 1601 crore for Jammu and Kashmir under skill development initiative Himayat to train 1.24 lakh local youths in vocational courses, Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan said.
- The PIA would be selected by State Level Project Appraisal Committee in which experts from National Institute of Rural Development and DDU-GYK will participate along with the officers of the state government.
- Under the reanimated Himayat programme, 1.24 lakh youths from both the rural and urban areas of the state would be imparted training in various job-intensive vocational courses over the next three years.
- Rs 1601.51 crore has been approved for the scheme over the next three years during which six-months, nine-months and one year job-oriented training in residential and non-residential courses will be imparted to the aspirants by the designated Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs).
- The state will establish Himayat Mission Management Unit at the state level within one month whereas the JKSRLM will oversee the overall implementation of the program in the state.
About Himayat Scheme:
Himayat is a training-cum-placement programme for unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir.Youth will be provided short-term training for at least 3 months, in a range of skills for which there is good market demand.
- At the end of the training, the youth are assured of a job and there is one year post-placement tracking to see how they are faring.
Key Features
- Himayat will be implemented in partnership with private agencies or NGOs who are into placement linked skill training for youth.
- The scheme aims to train 1,00,000 youth in 5 years and provide atleast 75% of them with jobs.
- Training centres will be developed in each block(geographicalarea),catering to the specific needs of the local youth.
- Support will be available for trainees after training, and during placement as well.
