Cabinet Ministers of India in 2024
New elections for the 2024 Lok Sabha have made it possible for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lead the formation of a new council of ministers. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously chose Modi as their leader on June 5. Now, plans are being made for his swearing-in ceremony, which will be attended by many important foreigners from the area and the Indian Ocean.
How the BJP Did in the Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 seats and was the biggest party in the 18th Lok Sabha. In the past, they had 303 seats in 2019 and 282 seats in 2014. This is a big drop from those numbers. But the party’s work has been good enough to form the center-level government. The main opposition party, the Indian National Congress, was able to get 99 votes.
How the New Council of Ministers is Made Up
The Indian Constitution says that the Council of Ministers can’t have more than 15% of the total number of Lok Sabha MPs. There are 543 people in the Lok Sabha right now, so the council of ministers can’t have more than 81 people.
In the last change of the Modi government, the council was made up of the Prime Minister and 78 ministers, including 29 Cabinet Ministers, 3 Ministers of State (Independent Charge), and 47 Ministers of State.
