Cabinet approves National War Memorial in Delhi

The union cabinet on 7th October 2015 approved construction of a ‘National War Memorial and a ‘National War Museum’  in the memory of 22, 500 soldiers who sacrificed their lives while fighting wars for post-independent India. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took the decision in this regard.

The project will be made at Princess Park near India Gate, New Delhi and was scheduled to complete in 5 years. Post-commissioning, a management body will be formed for the maintenance of the National War Memorial and Museum. he Cabinet also cleared three new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences. They will be established at Nagpur in Maharashtra, Manglagiri in Andhra Pradesh and Kalyani in West Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. The cost for this will be nearly Rs. 5,000 crore.

It has been decided that the prestigious project will be monitored by an empowered Steering Committee chaired by Defence Secretary and assisted by a dedicated project management team, to ensure that the proposed project is completed within scheduled time frame, Post commissioning, a management body will be formed for maintenance of the National War Memorial and Museum.
