Bhanu Pratap Sharma has been appointed as the Chairperson of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with effect from 3 July 2015. Sharma, an IAS officer of 1981 batch from Bihar cadre, has been given this additional charge of FSSAI for three months or till the appointment of a regular incumbent. Currently, he is the Secretary of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an agency of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
The FSSAI is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety.
The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India.
The FSSAI has its headquarters at New Delhi
