Bangladesh and China have signed an agreement with respect to the construction of a 3.5-km tunnel under the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong. The estimated cost of the project is $ 1 billion. Bangladesh’s Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges signed the deal with China Communications Construction Company in Beijing, ministry spokesperson Abu Naser.

A MoU was signed between Bangladesh and China for the tunnel during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Beijing visit in June 2014. The project is expected to be completed by December 2018.
